No personal space when you are a chick. They are also like little bumper cars.![]()
Sigh. I chased them off like that at first sign of them back in March. But she showed up with these little ones literally overnight. I woke up in the morning and there they were! This may not work for you.
I am very mean to them and chase them when they try to arrive. Mine fly in. I will monitor the pool like a watch dog for several days in a row. I will chase them while they are trying to land or just after I hear them splash down. I look like an idiot flapping my arms and screaming at them but it works.
Yes I followed that at the time too.It is about this famous French rooster. I was following this closely at the time.

Have you tried shredded cheese? They love that...Ruby Update
You’re too funny! And speaking of peckers... she has taken to pecking me.. she wants attention so she’ll peck at the back of my shirt while I’m sitting and pecks hard enough to grab skin! It makes me jump every time! That actually hurts the tender skin on your back or side not to mention the tickle jump/reflex... but it does NOT tickleWow that was an unexpected treat.
Claudine!!![]()
I still find that baby picture of her the most gorgeous chick ever!
I know, I have ‘a thing’.![]()
This is so sweet!!This is Coal and his chickens.
When I first got chicks I was terrified that my playful pup would hurt would. He is the sweetest soul, so I never should have worried. He has proven to be the flocks dear friend and hopefully will always be their fiercest protector.
Does anyone else have a dog who thinks he/she is a chicken?
Be happy it’s only that ! (I would swear, Emily aims straight for my bumm)! You’re too funny! do you guys know anything about turkeys?
We still have one hen. Turkeys can be a challenge getting them to 8 weeks, but after that they are pretty indestructible. If you want them for pets, I would suggest heritage turkeys. The broad breasted are a lot like CX and tend to be short lived but pack on the meat early on. Turkeys also require a starter that is significantly higher in protein to chick starter 24-28% and elevated levels of niacin, thiamin and methionine. Turkeys also need a LOT more space than chickens and once grown aren't particularly at risk from raptors. What has worked best for us is putting 4-5 week old chicks in with day old turkeys. Those chickens will never join in with the other chickens but will forever hang with the turkeys. But they teach the turkeys how to stay alive and what NOT to do as baby turkeys seek to find creative ways to commit suicide. Once grown, assuming you spend a lot of time with them while they are babies, they are like big feathered dogs. They'll follow you everywhere, sit in your lap and love to be petted. Best source for turkeys is Porters. He has many many different color varieties.
