In my Ee studies sometimes the head color can vary. From her chick down and body she appears silver based. I'm not sure what controls the head colors, but it it was probably something added on top. I think most silver birds have a lighter head.

Hey Alex, since you have time today you need to go get a good picture of Jaffar. Pippinthechicken is now doing a Rooster collage. Already submitted a Drumstick photo.
Every picture of Jaffar is a good one (He’s a good rooster)! 532266D2-DDFE-4D9C-A740-4B79604EE877.jpeg

Sigh. I chased them off like that at first sign of them back in March. But she showed up with these little ones literally overnight. I woke up in the morning and there they were!
I don't know where they are now - I saw her lead them off into the bushes. They were very cute with all of them waddling after her. Ducks are funny!
I don't think she will bring them back, unless the pool level goes right back up where it's safe for the little ones.

This does remind me that in the migration time of spring, a pair of mallard ducks stopped at our little 1/4 acre pond to rest. They swam all around exploring it, and then seemed to take an interest in the floating wooden dock sticking out onto the water. Mrs. Duck flew up onto it, stood on the waterside edge and began preening. Mr. Duck swam back and forth, checking it all out including the tall cattails on either side. Mrs. Duck sat down, put her head around and took a nap. Mr. Duck stopped swimming and settled on the water to the side of the dock, head up, staying very still. I kept checking on them from our house window. After a pretty long time she stood up, and then they both flew off.
It was so nice to watch this. :love
