I am going to relocate my coop cam tomorrow so I can properly monitor nest boxes.
I don't know how long each of their egg cycles are. Both Diana and Elizabeth have real shell issues. Diana who had the no-shell egg fall apart inside her seems to be laying eggs with shells but thin shells. Elizabeth however is laying eggs with shells so thin they break if you just look at them.
They both seem to love the Kefir which is high calcium in its own right and I am adding calcium to it.
So far Maggie's eggs are normal and don't come every day. And of course the roadrunners are young and lay a few days a week.

You and I need to have a chicken conference call. Seriously.

When we had our recent heat wave, mine did not eat in the hottest part of the day all on their own. The drug holes and laid in them. They would get up and drink and groom but no real eating during the middle of the day. They ate in the morning and at dusk. (And Hattie would eat at night)

The agri strategy was to not let them eat in the morning either, or very much in the morning, I think. I guess they would not be digesting and metabolizing the feed and creating heat by midday? But I didn't get further into it, they talked about expected weight loss!

Yes, my reading and understanding was that they create heat while metabolizing. And couple that with not being able to keep cool easily...

I feel fortunate that we generally cool off a fair bit at night. Because my girls are still so young, I worry about restrictions foods while they are still growing.

Well it seems that the stress of something getting into her nest and then having to move her and her remaining eggs has broke Henrietta up. She was fighting to be let out this morning and in doing so broke a couple more of her eggs. I have 7 left. The Incubator has been brought out of storage and the remaining eggs placed in there. It may be futile, but have to try. I do not know what raided her nest yesterday, it could have been anything to be honest but I wish I knew. It happened in the morning, she was not off at 7:30 am when I went out to feed and water everyone. I'm leaning towards maybe a stray dog or a mink. 2 years ago there was a family of black minks that we occasionally saw on the hillside. Whatever it was I'm now on high alert and have the shotgun ready incase it shows back up and goes after my chickens.

Poor Henrietta! She probably has PTSD now.
