We love you Ruby. :hugs Know you are loved near and far and you are an amazing fighter with a drive that few have.

This applies to you too, sweet Michelle. :hugs
Aww, thanks. Ruby surprised me and came out for a couple hours today. Gave me a chance to take out all the old litter on the lower floor, shop vac out the dust, and put in new bedding.

Ruby ate a little shredded zucchini and some freshly sprouted forage greens. (I’m trying to fill in the bald patches using these grow boxes, but keep taking them off too early and the girls demolish it.) I don’t think she touched the dry meal worms or leftover salmon from last night’s dinner.

She also drank droplets off the grass and sipped out of the puddle I created with a hose. Most importantly, she got fresh air and soaked in some sunrays. Not her best day, but not her worst, either.

I managed to squirt one small, slightly soapy bottle of warm water on her back side. Flies were interested, so I slightly misted with one squirt of permethrin.

Ruby was back in the nest box, but just came back out!

I’ve lost three adults and a chick. All three adults were really hard.
And it’s REALLY not looking good for Ruby today. I had to crawl under hubby's truck to retrieve her and bring her home. It’s about 1/3 of the way from my neighbor’s tree (where they hung out most of the day) and the coop. I put her on her shelf with fresh bedding and rigged up a towel sling over her, since she’s parked under Dorothy’s roosting spot and I don’t want her getting pooped on.
How are you and Ruby getting on? :hugs:hugs

Thank you for the update. ❤ Ms Ruby is something special and I am so glad she has a buddy and had some good highlights to her day.

And hugs for you, my friend. I am heartbroken and a disaster every time one of my girls have a flare up, so your perseverance and strength is something I greatly admire.

I really wish Beetov-Hen would get some help with her “drinking problem “
Is there a DrPepper’s anonymous near me?:lau, and if so, do they council head strong hens?

No I don’t let her drink too much. Sodas are not good for chickens. She only wanted to taste what daddy was drinking. (So don’t try this at home.)

Chicken care while out of town?

Wondering what arrangements you make when you are out of town for your flocks.

My gf has a dog care business, so the pups are accounted for. But for some reason chicken sitting isn't a big thing here 😂
I've arranged for the neighbor girl to care for them (with the help of her parents...who are excited to have that connection of where food comes from). This will be for less than 1 week.

Wondering what you all do with your flocks...
My in-laws live next door so they’re on chicken-duty when we’re away.
