Oh I'm so sorry to hear this! I wonder what she's doing now about the dog predation? The other six are okay? Are they spoken for?

She is keeping the remaining 6 to set up her flock. She was only parting with the excess birds. She was planning on keeping more than 6.

Hold it, your mission has been delayed but I don't see where there's been actual failure on your part. You're getting into speculation. Didn't you have good reasons for not taking two as straight run? Also, your heart is breaking for the 12 poor chickens that were killed, and we are too, that pain is giving you pause for sure.

It is. I'm just sad right now. I was getting all excited as they were close to coming. I am also a little discouraged because I don't even know where else I would to get some from. I know and trust these people.

I have to go to the bigger town today. No one here to check on my chooks. I hope they will be okay free ranging. I cannot get them all back into the coop. (Jaffar, time to shine good rooster) I will leave the A/C on, so the porch and beneath, stays cool. My chickens are smart and know better than play on the highway. An 8 foot high front fence might help me today.

While one of them may be dirty, I think you have very pretty ladies!

As far as wattles go, I would keep an eye on them but unless you start to see blue I don't worry too much.

I think my princess is a tomboy, I was the same and a child. Scratched knees and covered in mud. She must take after me

I'm Crushed

and not just for myself. I just got notice that there will be no Frizzled Polish coming to live with Phyllis. A dog got into the area where she kept them and killed 12 of the 18 chickens before they could get control of it. I'm both sad for her and myself. I was going to pick them up in the next two weeks. I should have taken them straight run. I could have saved 2 lives maybe.

Horrible. Do they know where the dog came from.
