So Russ is grounded, and for that matter so is Drumstick. Russ is smart, and can let himself out of his stall if he wants. He got half out a few months ago so now the boards are tied in place. He still plays with them trying to get them down but you know when he's doing it as he makes a lot of noise while doing so. Total silence outside this morning and I'm focused on what's going on in the incubator when I get a phone call. It's one of my neighbors asking if I was aware we had a horse out. Run outside and there is Russ, in the side yard happily eating grass with Drumstick and all his girls around him jumping up and catching any flies they could that landed on his legs. When he spotted me Russ walks right up to me and I toss the dog leash around his neck and lead him back into his stall no problem. It would not have been so easy if it had been Louis or Dirt that got out. Drumstick is in trouble because he could have crowed his fool head off so I would come out and saw what was up. But no, he was Russ's partner in crime. Both boys have been informed no afternoon treat time today, although I do not think they believe me.
Boys!
🤣

Phyllis is Segregated

I have split the coop. This should at least protect the nest for when I can't be there. I am hopeful that I will be able to monitor while she takes breaks and release her to the outside. If not, she has food and water and I will be able to add a dustbathing solution.

Hopefully this will work for 3 weeks.

I'm happy she is protected now, but sorry your other girls are making it difficult so you had to resort to these measures. It boggles the mind they destroyed the nest and tossed eggs. I have the opposite problem when a hen is sitting in a favorite spot. Instead of tossing eggs, they will climb in with the momma to be, even if it means sitting on top of her to lay their eggs so she'll tuck them under her. If I do not block her off and mark her eggs, I run the risk of staggered hatches.
This is why I wanted some friends for her. I think that if she will stay broody and accept the chicks we will have the best outcome. She can raise her own tribe.

Well tomorrow afternoon Blueberry's siblings and Bunny's 2 boys that I held back go to their new home. That means tomorrow evening it is time to transition Blueberry to the proper roost. I'm also hoping I can integrate her into Raven's little group. I do not think it will be too hard as throughout the day the 2 groups intermingle. With her siblings gone she should hopefully stick with them from here on out.
I really hope it goes smoothly for you and Blueberry.

My little Xzit hurt her foot today (scratching, and found broken glass) she’s resting in with me now. I cleaned up her wound, but I don’t like any of my birds getting hurt. I think she’s accident prone. :(
For you both. :hugs :hugs
