Phyllis Update

I took Phyllis off of the nest and got was she mad. She pecked me several times. From the amount of poo she dumped, she definitely had not left the nest.

Here she is just off the nest.

And then, more important than eating, the dust bath!

When I took her off the nest, Hattie was in box 2 to look at her egg. With Phyllis gone, Hattie was frantic to get in and lay her egg in the best nest box.

She was off the nest at least an hour. During that time Aurora went in the side door and tried to lay in her nest. Then Phyllis returned and I closed her back in.

Well done, Bob! I’m so happy to see her taking care of her needs. And Hattie trying to get in was priceless!

Good job Bob. At least Phyllis is out and about, for a while. :)

Well done Phyllis and well done Bob - this is all very stressful and I am very happy to see Phyllis dealt with all her needs. Will you take her off the nest every day now Bob?
I have to say poor Hattie was priceless! :lau

I hope you keep some for shade.
Still plenty of shade for the chooks, and that’s only one small corner of the yard. E746ADF8-B4E9-4254-828B-2A07B57030DB.jpeg

I don't know how I will manage going forward. I am hoping she will eventually get up on her own but if she doesn't, I will move her myself. I will not let her perish because of setting.

Here’s something interesting….
I have 5 layers. 1 brown, 2 blue, 2, green.
this morning we found a “fairy egg” on the poop board. Figured Ms. Ruby (barred rock) laid it overnight. She hasn’t laid an egg yesterday. I went out tonight and just found this speckled egg!! Both very thin shells. Seems like she laid both between last night and sometime this evening.
