What I'm going to do now that they do not have their momma to back them up is watch how the rest of my flock treats them. If they go out of their way to pick on them I will make the call to rehome them all. It would be selfish on my part to keep them only to have to keep them cooped up all day for their safety. I could do it, but I will not. It would not be fair to have everyone else free range and them stay in a coop just so I can have a silkie.

You're right. It kinda sucks, but you're right.

This is my little would be drowning victim today. They have such comical personalities. I wish you could tell early on these guys on which are boys and which are girls. They are 6 weeks old now and weaned, I really need to make some decisions on them on who is staying if any. I want to keep 2 girls, but they are still so tiny. Their size is actually worrying me, even though they are healthy the rest of my flock are really big chickens. Is it really worth keeping 2 if all I'm going to be doing is worry about them being picked on by the big birds? That and wondering what have they found today to try to kill themselves with.

From my experience... I had one lone Silkie with all big gals.. she did fine for awhile but then I noticed her getting pinned down and others pecking... I had let her adopt four Cochin bantams and had them all for awhile but then decided to rehome them so they could be with only bantams and be able to hatch as they were always broody!
They are all happy in their new home and some have babies

Wow - you have a lot of new chicks! How many in total? I have to share that I only have 5 and they are quite a handful so I am very impressed by all of you who can handle more.

Phyllis still has to be removed from the nest. She just will not get up on her own.

She is however sitting strong. She is going to hatch those ceramic eggs.

Her chicks are scheduled to hatch on 8/2.

I’ve had to skip ahead again as I just couldn’t catch up. Is Phyllis going to hatch some eggs or is someone else sitting on them and you’ll slip newly-hatched chicks under her?

I'll take the liberty of a quick fill in...

Phyllis is sitting on ceramic eggs. Bob has chicks ordered, I believe they are due August 2nd. He's going to slip the chicks under her at night.

Note: I have two orphaned birds dumped into my yard. I still take care of them, when the rest of my tribe won’t let them join! It’s a pain in my b… but I made my decision too. And following my conscience, I accepted them (even if my other birds won’t)! Nuff said

I do have a soft spot for people and chickens, and other animals. (I’m sure I will find where I left it someday soon)
