The Phyllistines is grabbing me 😅

Just saying hi again-I am still lurking here! I’ve tried to check in once and a while to keep up yet it’s no use…you guys talk a LOT:)

Anyway, when I have time I’m still reading from the beginning, yet only made it to post 1000 so far! Just enjoying the ever evolving story of your hens, BYBob and of course everyone else’s tales that are woven in between.

I will have my little flock until the end of August and am still enjoying them a lot. I started with 3 yet they gave me one more as two of them are not laying. They gave me a little EE and she lays every day. I personally think the other three take turns…:lau I can just imagine them in their coop at night…”so, who’s laying tomorrow? It won’t be me again my butt is sore…you do it!”

I do have a question for you, BYBob. Your hens look so soft and fluffy, not to mention so nicely filled out. It’s like they are dipped in a bath and blow dried every day! Mine seem healthy, just look a bit more unkempt. Is there a secret? Or is hen life tougher up here in Canada? The weather has sure been nuts here…from plus 37*C to cool and smoky and now rain! (Thank goodness for the rain)

Anyway, carry on. Perhaps I’ll eventually be completely caught up to real time. I’m enjoying the beginning of the thread in the evenings like a novel.

As there was no picture in my post, here’s some chicken tax.

Your hens are quite lovely. My hens take mostly care of themselves grooming wise. Occasionally we have to clean a butt. Outside of that they groom and care for their feathers themselves.

Since yours are loaner chickens I wonder if they might be a little stressed being moved about. Stress can cause feathers to be more rumpled as grooming can drop off.

Your red hen does seem a little rumpled in that picture, almost like she is going through a molt. Are you finding feathers strewn about at all?

I still like thinking of them as Phylli, diminutives of Phyllis.
