He also asked “ who does her feathers?”
I have no idea about her featherdresser. She has secrets she won't tell, maybe it's proprietary professional information, I've never figured it out

I was going to stop for the night at the top of page 2303 (Nov 15ish, visit to pig farm). However, when I went out to close the coop this evening......i went to check on Mama who's been settling on the ground in a "box cave" with Storm (who is 2 weeks now)

She's not there...in fact, she's on TOP of the nest boxes on the far left (pic to show where, not taken today: in same spot as Dora, the pullet)

Uh-oh! What happened to Storm? Where is she?!

Under Mama, up there too! How in God's green earth did the little imp get all the way up there?! shared with the youngest kid in the house. He had been sent out yesterday to close the coop (I took a hefty bruise at work and was NOT going down steps without a railing). The pullets weren't in yet, so I told him tog o back out in a half hour. He forgot, so they let themselves out at the crack of dawn (everyone was fine). What he neglected to tell me was that Mama and Storm pulled this same trick YESTERDAY too. Houston, there's been a change in roosting order!

When it is hooked up and running, does the water recirculate? How nice to have an option to keep it fresh. Wondering if that helps from mosquitoes being drawn to it.
It was my mother in laws, I think the pump keeps the water circulating, but I don't think there is much (or maybe any) of a filter. I haven't figured out out to get electric to it safely where it it, or where else to put it, so dump and refill for now.

I cannot donate my eggs to the food bank I assist with. It’s a USDA sponsored venue (and would be illegal):(
Note: I will have ten more eggs tomorrow! :barnie
I feel your pain Alex. I am supplying my whole street @ present & not everyone has come back on the lay yet. I'm getting roughly a dozen eggs a day. :th I was told the banties aren't good layers but that ain't so bro!

I actually wanted chickens as pets, because I love their personalities and funny antics. But the mood swings and so many eggs (I could do without) :old
I’m very glad that I have my rooster to help me manage these hens. Jaffar is a great rooster friend, and seems to know more than me about hens. (He’s a very busy Cochin roo)

Perhaps you should let your girls stay broody after all! Mine will sit even with no eggs 🤷‍♀️
The extreme heat in the coop during the day would kill my birds. (No brooding in the coop) I won’t run the coop A/C so I cool the house and the chickens stay cool by being under the porch on very hot days.
