Field Trip Photos

In this first photo we are looking at Legertha. She is starting to lose her head poof. You can see the tiny pin feathers coming in. I believe these two are going to start looking silly soon.

The reactions of the big hens were very interesting. Sydney came over twice and got her face right down next to them. They were peeping away. I can't tell if Sydney said anything to them or not.

Aunt Aurora was all over this. She has a fascination with chicks that makes me wish she would set. She might be an excellent mum.

The high today is only going to be 76°F (24°C) so if we go back out it will be mid day in the sun.
New babies!

I think I posted this a while back... somewhere. I used this on all of my chickens. Some may think...hmmm? 🤔. But, I promise, once I started to use it, my mite problems were gone. So easy!! Spritz the bottom, tummy, both sides of neck, back, under wings, and feet and legs. Of course you're lifting up the feathers to squirt it on. So easy, and no waiting on eggs to be ok to eat. Buy it in pet shops.

Much as I love this (and I really, really do!) I think I have to wait until Spring.
I think I mentioned I am retiring at the end of the year and so early next year I will have all the time in the world to enjoy and care for baby chicks. Until then though I am still pretty flat out workwise and specifically in October and November I will be travelling so I would miss out on a lot of the fun!
A mature reasoned reply. I should have expected nothing else. None the less, the offer stands.

And absolutely no pressure, but I will not even think of listing the chicks until Bunny is done with them and I choose my keeper. I really need to hold back a pullet with the loss of Clover. So if you do change your mind between now and then the offer here still stands as well.

You guys are the best! And I am only just hanging on to being mature and reasoned. It might all crumble when my local farm tells me they have stopped breeding Marans!

Well, mine apparently like sardines. never served before, zero hesitation . blueberries were a harder sell. sardines going on the list for moult/winter treats. 1 tin × 11 birds, well 10 (Thing hasn't figured out the idea of treats). Storm is FAST! swooped in and snatched from under beaks of bigger birds.
The tribes used to prefer them cooked.
