So sorry ACM, Deana was a beautiful hen. And sadly, I was wrong about my Emily. She’s taken a turn for the worse today. She’s laying on my chest, (as I text this). I can’t tell if she’s sleeping by being comfortable with me, or dying in my arms? She was fine this morning before church, but when I returned home, she was laying around in the yard. I even offered her some meally worms. Her crop is squishy, and She refused. (Her normally red straight comb is pale and flopping over.) I will just lay with her here for a while, and think what to do next.:fl:(
Thank you Alex.
I hope Emily improves. It’s good that she has you and Jaffar to comfort and take care of her. :hugs

I don't know for sure how things are going to work out with amber. Looking on the bleak side she may well have to go. :(

I have been talking too a lady about changing the situation if it is the case for amber...

About two years ago a guy who is a neighbour of hers lost a lot of chickens too foxes and has managed too rebuild a few flocks of chickens, through breeding.

This lady has asked me to write a note for him, about getting a few eggs too hatch.

This could possibly heal princess. She's always trying to hatch eggs. I do not have an incubator but will be looking back to find this amazing lady that used her slow cooker. I've lost track of her for now but I will get onto this in a few day when the work due in my home is completed

I will need a accurate temperature monitor, any thoughts on this I would really appreciate. This is scary but a very exciting idea , I really feel I can attempt this now.

I just thought i would share with you all what I am seriously considering. :)
Wow. This seems like a serious undertaking. I know you will research it thoroughly before starting. We will all follow along for sure.

She doesn't seem as relaxed as Sydney was the other day, what do you think Bob?

But then Sydney knows about chicks.
Yes. It was different when Phyllis was with them. It was easy to see that Sydney was mothering them. She definitely was trying to teach them. Phyllis did talk to them but she definitely seemed more stilted. I am not sure what to make of it.

She's going through a bad melt now and amber is causing a lot of upset. Plus winter is on the way
I will need to know when would be the best time too begin this process. I so hope to link up with this man.
I did not think of this but I would avoid doing chicks in the winter. Of course my winters are worse than yours. If you can be patient hen raised chicks are smarter chickens. Likely you would have to wait for spring though.

Yes it did look like that - I suspect as she has never raised chicks she is probably a bit mystified. My guess is you want to maximize calm time she has with them and get her used to being with them as being a time of safety and treats.
Practically I think that means you need to figure a way of keeping the others away and giving her time around them but without having to keep looking over her shoulder to make sure she isn't about to be bullied.
It might also mean mealy worms on both sides of the fence just for her and the chicks.
Complicated I know.

Here is the good news in a way. No one outside of Sydney and Phyllis spent any time with them today. The rest of the flock doesn't seem to care anymore. Because of this Phyllis got more alone time with them today. They were outside for over 3 hours today. I think that helped a well.

I am hopeful I will not need to manufacture any time for them to be together now.

She’s doing better. Been hanging out with Jaffar all afternoon.
If Emily can get up to her perch tonight, I’m pretty sure she will be okay 👍 but if not (I will call the veterinarian in the morning) and then take her inside with me :fl Best I can think to do for now.:idunno

Seems reasonable Alex. Good luck.
