I have not been getting many eggs. Quite often I will hear the escort call and when I go expectantly out to the nest box I am disappointed.

Edwina has been doing a lot of calling in the last few weeks but no brown eggs have appeared.

Today I was in the garden and saw Edwina stalking purposefully down the path calling but she wasn't coming from the direction of the coop.

I know, it's obvious in hindsight. I got youngest to look under their favourite bush.

I feel such a fool

There are now 4 fake eggs in the nest boxes.

Love it. It happens to so many people I think. Chickens do prefer to make their own nests and ime it's almost always on natural ground.

At my house, one hen showed up in need of a home, Sandy. She stayed at the bottom of the pecking order until the pullets arrived and then she blossomed as a mean aunty who kept the little ones in line. Unfortunately she died not long after from a persistent uterine infection.

That's sad you lost her. What were her symptoms?

It was really good of you that you gave her a home and at least she was happy being a leader for while there

This mug tells me Katydid is going to be the first layer. Her comb has always been pinker than everyone else's.

Would anyone know if Warren's are aggressive,?.

I've just read they are docile.
I hope amber doesn't bully them. Or she will be on her own

When I grew up in the city, Mr Warren was the mean old man down the street. He was angry at life, and didn’t like loud children. (Does that help?)

The roof is above. If I can get a automatic door maybe I can get a little heat for the winter too it would be great if it cou6be solar and battery

She is a beautiful girl. And still laying....she's got it all! I absolutely love the super big, floppy comb. Don't know why, but I'm a sucker for those!

She can bring home the bacon (well, the eggs, anyways) and fry it up in a pan, and never let you forget your a (Roo)man, she's a Womhen, Hen-Rietta!!

Okay, I'm probably showing my age, but that was the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the pic & heard she was still laying!
