I think that's everything... But there might be some I don't know of.

Oh, sometimes music and dancing are shared on my thread too. Shad put an amazing dance video there yesterday.

So seems this is possible, but given that you literally 'scare them into', should we? While I realize that it is important to check a bird for health reasons, and that this can be stressful in and of itself....does this catatonic state induce more stress, or less stress, overall than doing an exam without it? I am so acutely aware of the effects of stress on humans (well, me in particular), that I would feel badly actively inflicting it on chickens. So, which is the better (or worse) option in terms of stress on a chicken. Anyone know? I personally TRY to induce the least possible stress when examining a chicken...but clearly I am not totally successful given their reaction.

Thoughts on this?
A fighting chicken who thinks it will live is less stressed than a frozen chicken who thinks it's going to die.

That's only an opinion.

Thanks, you are very kind. I had no intention of posting about her passing, but the aftermath has been such a startling reversal from the previous peaceful flock interactions, that Blazinga's question motivated me to respond.
It's like RC recently said, they leave an empty space which is much bigger than one chicken.

I'm going to add that handling chickens in the middle of the night when they're sleepy doesn't stress them out as much. I know this from personal experience.

I would like to find a way too burn pine wood and give it a bash myself.

I know how good activated charcoal is and that's from using it at desperate times. Purifying it is my problem.. maybe using what have here o the chickens more often would be a good plan 🤔

The bought charcoal has saved my life twice and countless times for my dog, it's even helped my cat
I think it needs to be hardwood ash and that rules pine out.
