We Have him Back Home

Girls are in the big coop for the first night!!

Our little one was sold off today so hubby took the afternoon off to make the big one ready for sleeping.
It isn't all the way done yet (need to add automatic door and attach a run), but it is solid and safe to sleep in.
Will take pics this weekend

I wonder if it will settle back down after some time has passed or if this is the new norm from here on out.

Some of the settling in...Thing, had to put her on the roost...not uncommon, but she was looking around quite a bit. Storm hopped up on to the roost, so she's capable (just not allowed that close to the others yet). Silver and Pear went to their usual places on top of the nest boxes with the usual No One Else Allowed. Once Cheetah reaches full maturity (probably with spurs) and successfully courts them, I think that will change. Lots of hopping back and forth between roosts, up and down and rearrangement while they explore. They don't like going into the coop for more than quick drink/nibbles on the commercial feed during the day...here's hoping I don't have to do too much find the egg in the weeks to come (have had some lay under the spruce tree on the opposite side of the house in the past, in the dog house, and in Castor's house). Maybe if we get a decent snowfall early, they will decide laying in the coop is a great idea.‍♀

It will settle down but it might take a while.

A couple of new hens will attract Mrs Howell's ire and enable the pre-existing friendship to flourish again. But that's a very big step.

You are too kind - this one told itself. It still makes me laugh out loud remembering it and I am glad that I have such a happy memory of poor Scary whose sense of adventure was her ultimate undoing.

Do you have a photo of Scary RC? I don't remember seeing one.

I think, at least from what I've observed that age has a major infuence. In the tribes the eldest was the senior hen in all respects. I never saw a senior hen lose her spot. The struggle was often for second most senior and while age was a factor, temperament was also a factor.

I have to agree, although my experience is limited. Lucy was the oldest and was the boss from when a pecking order was established, now Charlie is alpha and is around a few months older than the Faverolles. She was also here first, which probably also goes a long way to being higher up the pecking order.
