:hmmOh dear, I t hink I owe a chicken tax, but can't figure out how to get the new camera to upload to the computer. :idunno ?Is there a tax on a delayed tax paid????:idunno
No tax on unpaid taxes, just interest accruing.........every minute...........

Lillie, please come back home. And Lord Jesus please heal Bob’s family and heal everything . I have my own problems today, but I care more my friends, than I do myself at times. Nothing compares to true friendships. Which I lost today. My friend from Texas died this morning 🙁this hurts!
I'm so sorry for your loss Alex. :hugs :hugs

Yes, I realize that it is their nature for sure. Frankly this behavior has gone on with every new members of the flock. It is why Maleficent chose to just roost outside in the run as well.

I will say it has been non-stop since I let her set. Whatever the intentions, letting Phyllis set is requiring that I do something else. It was not nearly consistently this bad prior to it. This would happen occasionally. Maybe once a month I would find her outside the coop. Now it is every night.

As I see it, I have two choices. Try to split the tribes or rehome her. Obviously I am choosing the former but I cannot be certain that it will work. I am doing it with an abundance of apprehension that it will work and that I will get it all correct.

I am hoping for good advice from everyone to help me to see if I am missing something. I will post a basic plan in the next few days and I hope that everyone will help me to look for what I might be missing.
I have my computer back so will be reading this with great interest.

It will settle down but it might take a while.

A couple of new hens will attract Mrs Howell's ire and enable the pre-existing friendship to flourish again. But that's a very big step.
I was thinking about the same thing. There's a guy in the next town over who raises chickens for sale. I called him right after Ginger died and he said he's got lots of them ready to go. I'm not sure we are prepared to take on new chooks but I suspect we will go see what he's got. Next week would be my earliest opportunity to get out there.

I brought Maryanne in the house for some treats, so she could actually get some, and she was still flinching every time Mrs. Howell (no more calling her Lovey, that's for sure) barked outside.

I think if the terrorization doesn't let up then we might more seriously consider adding a couple in the hopes that more targets might make for less individual abuse.

I have scoured the academic literature and the university extension sites and cannot find any reference to wood ash needing to be from hard wood.
In the non-academic literature there is plenty of stuff that is hard to sift through which says everything from chickens will explode on contact with wood ash to you should be pouring it into their feed bucket. So I am ignoring all that.
I have read enough to be confident that my wood ash won't harm my chickens so I am going to go ahead.
I love your research and critical thinking skills!

Hey Everyone. It's been a while since I've last been here 😆 I'm slowly getting caught up with everyones posts.

Do y'all remember the two chicks I rescued? The first in May and the second in July? They're all grown up now!

Clearly Gizmo is a rooster. He started crowing a few weeks ago and makes a GREAT alarm clock! 🤣

Okay, going to continue catching up on this thread!
They are great looking chickens. 🥰
