big coop update

still a work in progress, but plugging along!

The full glass door was confusing to them at first, they didn't understand the autodoor in the back was their entrance/exit. After day 3, they are all on board now. I will be putting a film in the lower half of the glass to let light in, but reduce the "oh I see it and I'm gonna go for it" attempts

Here is their primary entrance/exit from the backside of coop.
The auto door mechanism is on the interior of coop to help avoid dirt or ice from getting into the tracks.

The berm will be their protected run attached to the coop. It is about 42 inches wide and 26' long.

There is electricity inside so we can have the brooder/heater in extreme winter to take the edge off.
There will be 2 vent fans installed as well.
We will side the exterior to match the upper half of our house....but that probably won't happen until next spring.

The Cluckle Hut

Ladies and gentlemen the Cluckle Hut is nearly ready for occupancy.

I went with an existing ramp I had for access. It allows the maximum space in the run.

I finally got the side doors to mesh.

I doubled down on security adding push latches on the inside and clip latches on the outside of the flop door.

The roost might be a little high but I wanted them to have walking space underneath it without banging their heads. If I need to lower I can.

And the water and food dispensers are ready to be filled. I'm going to put in some straw and tomorrow I will move them out.

Still left to do, purchase and install the automated door. Finalize how the main window will be permanently attached. It also needs painted.

Here's mine.
Put your overalls on, the feece lined ones, and go and lock them in manually.
I could never fully trust an auto closer. For a start it would mean that at roost time I would not be certain if all the chickens had arrived homw safely and gone to roost.

I missed this back in August, but, yeah. I need to tuck mine in every night, too.

I just came back from the garden after playing a game with Lilly.It’s called the chicken-seeker.And u won’t beleive it she was actually seeking for me when I hid, she saw me n she ran!And of course caught me .she .Lilly the winner

Though I must say she’s a smart football play and I thereby name her thee Ronaldo Lilly.
