New Roost Added

I did add a new lower roost today.

No Chicken Encounters

Tonight I held no chickens, no chickens roosted on my shoulder, and no chickens needed my help.

Phyllis roosted in the main coop and the littles put themselves to bed. I sat alone as they took care of their own business.

They grow up so fast. 😥

The Cluckle Hut is fabulous. I really like that you mounted the baby roost at 90° angle to the big roost because they might be able to escape any roosting pecks from Phyllis by running along it and out of range

That really could be so around here. Interesting.
I agree - I think it must be that. They really are going at it in a very determined way. I think this time of year there are Japanese beetle grubs for example - I don't think it actually is those as they have more or less disappeared from around here - but there could be other insects that have a life-cycle that creates something yummy in the ground around now.
I followed them around trying to see what was so all-absorbing but I couldn't see what they were pecking at in the dirt. I will try again tomorrow but will also move their yard a bit so they can have a bigger area to destroy!

I feel good! I had my special cup of Coco this afternoon. She’s such a sweet hen (and yes she laid another egg today) I guess she forgave me for my poor judgement yesterday.:D View attachment 2859730
Lucky you. I just realized I am about to run out of eggs. WTH?! I can't buy eggs, it would feel disloyal!

Those who read on my thread will have seen this already but I wanted to share my broody Jap bantam here as well as I've never seen a broody do this before. Just watch what she does with her tail!
I'm reading along and nobody's yet said this looks like what a scorpion does. But doesn't it? Or maybe a skunk! :lau 🤣
