I always thought they were designed as a bit of a joke item.
I think Aussie flies are too smart and determined to be put off by a few swaying corks! 😂
I've seen a corked hat in action but it was worn as part of a costume at a cattle dog performance for tourists
:gig

I Just Knew It

When darkness started to fall, the Phyllistines had no idea where to go to roost. I gave them some time but they just laid down in the grass and distress peeped. So I gathered them up and they climbed up to my shoulder. SoI sat down and we hung out together for a while.

Of course they could not sit still and eventually wound up on my head.

Notice how simply I caught Legertha when she fell off my head. Pretty slick, right?

I took them to their coop and put them on the porch. From there, they put themselves to bed after snacking for a while.

Phyllis roosted in the big coop tonight so I closed off the big run. The littles will be free to roam the big run when the automated door opens in the morning.
I’ve only had a chance to watch the first one but you look so content Bob 🥰
And Legatha’s hairdo wobbling when she was grooming your shirt was so cute!!

Sorry Shad.

So sad, all that poor creature has gone through I hope the others have more success :(.

Sorry to hear this Shad

I'm so sorry you have lost one and I'm afraid it won't be the last. :hugs
Thanks everyone.
My view is that these poor creatures are dead chickens walking. Certainly for the Ex Batts their life was over when the battery threw them away.
There is far to much to do to make them safe and supply a standard of accomodation I would prefer them to live in.
While possible, it would take a few generations to get them to the point where they could free range with a decent chance of survival. They just don't know stuff that the tribes chicks got taught at a very early age by their mothers and other tribe members.

Thanks everyone.

Please do not beat yourself up by being so pessimistic. These girls are alive and seeing the outside world, every hour they live is a lifetime better than the hell they were forced too live in.

You can only do so much and from where I'm sitting that's a world of difference for them.

It would be fantastic if they breed but you are not god and can only do what is humanly possible. I only wish I could put half of the input you have already put in its vast.

I have just two little girls here and I celebrate every moment with them they are so grateful and ecstatic too be free.

For what it's worth, I'm so proud too have met in here, I honestly am. 💞

I don't know if you have transport or access to someone who has, but I've heard of the "market place" on Facebook, some people are even giving away coops and an old dog kennel would serve as shelter.

I shouldn't preach too the converted but only sharing my thoughts.

Is this why you haven’t named them yet?

Maybe but I would have to come up with 22 names now. :hmm
Also, I like to have some idea of their personality and I'm a long way from that atm.
Henry The Second (Roman numerals would be handy here) is pretty easy. The Light Sussex hen is apparently his daughter so she's Matilda.:D
I've got a couple more names brewing.

After spending some time with a friend that is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, your stance is similar to what they have. In particular, a baby animal is considered dead even during rehab bc the task is daunting. Thus does NOT mean they do not care for it, just the prospects are great to achieve survival and (re)integration.

Your current flock, although adults, only have infantile abilities for survival.

That all being said...I couldn't avoid falling in love and naming them too soon. Let it be known publicly that I am a weak softie.

Matilda is a mighty fine name for a chicken. Mind you, so is Eleanor.
