I would not want to know what a forced molt is. That does not sound good.

I don't know about everyone else but I think this changeable wealthier may have something to do with all this molting.

I know what force feeding is: It’s when my chickens surround me and force me to give them treats (and they are very good at doing so) I have never heard of a forced molt, until today.

She's one of the lap hoppers. She's very endearing but she's also a bit of a savage when it comes to removing skin in her eagerness to make sure she gets her share.
Only Henry and Matilda have worked out that everyone will get something and there is no need to grab; oh, and Lima for some unknown reason. She will wait if the scrum is too rough and come and see what I've got for her when I go and sit down.

I don't know about everyone else but I think this changeable wealthier may have something to do with all this molting.

I read that the annual molt is triggered by some combination of day length and temperature. But individual chickens respond differently. Also it seems an individual chicken can respond differently each year. Maggie’s molt last year was just awful and this year so far it hasn’t bothered her much. What is going on with @BY Bob’s Sansa is just very weird indeed. I really hope he gets some answers on how to help her.

Shad, will you please elaborate on the poultry dust and why it’s harmful? I have some on hand, but only used it once. Mine is not Sevin, but Permethrin based. I put it on Ruby’s back end when she was poopy, too weak to clean, and attracting flies. I did a very light dusting only on the back to discourage flies. However, I have it on hand in case we ever get life or mites. Thank you!

Here in the UK and from what I can gather in the US most poultry dusts are DE.
It's not a matter of being harmfull although chickens breathing in DE or any other chemically treated dust can't be good for them.
The problem is, if they have mites and the "average" keeper has noticed this the problem is likely to warant more than a bit of anything.

I sound like a native (learned as a child) but vocabulary and comprehension are limited due to lack of use. Still, it comes in handy for messing with people and calling the kids (they hear the language and come running even though they don't understand). If I were immersed again, I think it would come back again.
