I just had to share:
I was getting a few chores done around the house this morning, when I heard a soft knocking sound coming from my front door. I opened the door and saw one of the backyard chickens (who must've pecked on my door) waiting for me on the porch, there were 6 chickens behind her on the patio area. They all looked at me expectantly, probably wondering what was taking me so long to come out & feed them 🤣
That's the best. I miss having them at the backdoor.

Thanks for pointing out the positive aspect here!
Sadly there is not much available in the way of workarounds. I'm now limited to adding vaccinated 6 week old pullets from breeders if I ever want any more chickens. Any broody hatched chick will likely get sick and pass away before they reach 30 weeks. I have to assume that all the chickens I have are carriers so I can't let them leave here. Not that I would.

I think that's it.

I am glad I had the autopsy done so I at least know but it is a tough situation I'm in now.

Is anyone else having difficulties opening the pdf? If it is just me, Bob, could you email it to me directly. For obvious reasons I am anxious to read it.
I am so sorry I contributed to bringing this into your flock.
😥
How could you have known?

I'm quite surprised the littles were so tiny yet had already caught Marek's.

Hugs though :hugs:hugs

A Normal Confined Morning

Here is a video of everyone inside the complex. It is astonishing how much better dirty water tastes. It was 28°F when I took this and there had been a skin of ice on their water that I had broken off for them. That left a couple of little water pools around. Watch them enjoy the dirty water over the fresh.

Dirty water has all the tastiest seasonings!

You've got some lovely hens. You should go back and read your own thread.:love

Your options for expanding the flock (when the time comes) are more limited than before but not at zero.

I've just read the Marek's Wikipedia page. Why are animal vaccines leaky? It would be better if they were fully preventative. Is it a case of not enough investment? Or is there a scientific reason? I'm hoping you might know the answers Bob.

It would seem adding ex batt birds to a backyard flock might be a risk factor.
