Sorry to bore you all but this never gets old for me. I love seeing them using their blue stairs!
Dotty demonstrates perfect technique. Diana loses patience.
This doesn’t get old for me either, I love it!

Reminds me that as kids my siblings and I specialized in running down stairs as fast as possible. Horribly dangerous but we never got hurt doing it. Diana is older? Maybe she’s a bit creaky in the legs.

You may be right. Or maybe hexagonal is normal. It’s the oblong one I was concerned about.

It turns out I’m the world’s worst photographer, as hardly any photos are super clear up close, but some pupils might be ever so slightly hexagonal. Here are a few pics of other hens’ eyes. Who knew one could obsess over chicken pupils so much!

Oops. Posted before photos. Here they are.

We obssess over all things chickens. Pupils are just apparently the latest fad.

Good video and I am glad she is better now.
That is exactly what Minnie was doing all night when she was blocked.
I had somehow not appreciated how small she is compared to Bridge.
:love :love
Barred Rocks should be Hattie sized, which is to say, large. 😆

I am learning. I was out just now trying (unsuccessfully) to de-ice the path into the house when a hawk flew low over me.
I knew there was a hawk around because I heard it calling and then heard the crows making a fuss.
Anyway, now I get it - light underneath. It is also clear the other bird I took photos of must have been a Turkey Vulture - it was a lot bigger than this one.
And no, I haven't learned enough yet to know what kind of hawk! It was really pale and snowy underneath.

Edited to add:
A bit more research and it is definitively a red-tailed hawk and that is the commonest hawk sound I hear. But, from sound alone I believe I also have red shouldered hawks (which makes sense given the habitat where I live). Not sure I have seen one of those.
