I am glad others stagger around d in the dark in the torrential rains chasing down their critters - I thought I was the only crazy person to do that! Last summer I ran out the paddocks to drag the horses in during a tornado warning 😲😲😁😁

The chickens were smart enough to get under cover!
Climbing down snowy hillsides in the dark with a chicken riding the toe of your boot......uh-uh...not me....

It is my understanding that pecking at an exposed area has nothing to do with the pecking order. Please don't confuse the two.

I know you will keep a close watch on her. Do you have something to spray her with? If not, I would see about getting some in advance.
Yes I’ve got some Cetrigen, I’ll give her a spray today.

Oh Alex I am so sorry. As well as the cost and the hassle that is so stressful for you.
:hugs
Do you have any kind of security like cameras or motion activated lights? Might be worth getting something maybe?
No camera for that area. And motion lights are a good idea, I just don’t have any. :(😥

I am so happy that Chiquita and Poppy are getting on so well! It is fun to watch the chickens enjoy their 'freedom' when you first let them out to free range! (Must have been fun seeing Chiquita's zoomies!):love:love I love seeing your lovely flock!

Yup, a 'wind' or 'fart' egg. Remember, the elderly tend to fart more! :lau:lau:lau
I prefer “Bob’s Fairy Egg” better

I don't use supplemental light. I personally believe they need the rest from egg laying, so I refuse to use supplemental light (plus, don't have electricity!, lol) I did, one year, put battery operated christmas lights (white ones) around the coop(outside) with a timer to make it easier on me in the mornings, as at that time I was teaching a 7 am class and had to leave the house by 5:45 am. However, it seemed too disruptive for the girls (light shown through their window), so I took them down after a few weeks. That was before I had discovered the headlamps.

This fall had unseasonably warm weather...and then was rainy late in the season. I suspect that, contrary to conventional wisdom, temperatures affect molting as well as the supposed diminishing of light. We never had a killing frost until late November, and we always have one by/before Columbus day in my area.
We too had a mild Autumn and mild start to winter, very over cast... I think it has been a topsy turvy weather year throwing everything into disarray.

Re: head lamp - aren't they awesome!

I have been vandalized! Last night someone or several, got into my yard and punctured my tires on the bird mobile (Lexus) why would anyone chance breaking into my yard? It’s gonna be costly to replace two tires. A sheriff report is filed, and I will talk to the insurance agent on Monday. Breakins and vandalism is increasing in this area. (The deputy warned me) I even padlocked the coop last night.:(:barnie
Oh no! That sucks! Well tires can be replaced you can't, nor your feathered friends. Please be very careful.
