No, I didn't use treats but it's still a possibility for Hazel, though Hazel's strategy of going alongside when someone else eats is working just fine for her. Just train them first thing in the morning when they're hungriest, they figure it out fast - what to do to get food and how to do it.This afternoon, I bought a treadle feeder in a different design which I'm really looking forward to. It has a pin to lock it shut at night to keep pests out, and a pin to gradually adjust the opening until the hens are no longer concerned about stepping up and the pin can be removed (or something like that). I also like the deep tray and grill to stop pellets getting flicked out (I'm looking at you Ivy).
Seems your hens learned very quickly! Did you put treats in there at first? I'm planning to put tomato, cheese and lettuce in there on the first day.
Blanche, Sophia and Penelope are my cousin's hens, she asked me to take them for the winter, she moved north and wanted them safe.Very lovely ladies!![]()
This hen is so chilled out, she’s practically asleep. How sweet. She talked me into it! Rocks-Anne ran across the yard and jumped on my lap. So, of course I brought her inside and opened my private stash of meally worms !(I’m running really low on them)
Thanks, I am enjoying having chickensSounds like you're planning on moving into the barn?
Love the ladies
Yup basically lazySorry to hear that it’s that difficult, and so hard on you to do those 400ft. (Think, the fresh eggs are worth the trip)![]()
