I do hope, for both of your sake, that it is a treatable kind of infection. :fl:fl

If it isn't, I know you will do what is right for her, no matter how hard it will be.

Remember, Bob, you rescued her from under a porch, and gave her (and her best friend Patsy) an absolutely wonderful life with you & your clan! Really, she would never had known enjoyable car rides, meeting Santa, having cherry pie ;), nor had so many chicken friends (nor experience SO MANY wonderful treats and so much love!)🐔❤️🐔❤️
Thanks for the reminder. :hugs

Preparing Myself for the Worst

It's likely not good news for Lilly. She is holding a lot of fluid, almost a full pound. Her abdomen is distended and frankly she smells very bad. I thought it was from the poo that had gathered on her when I cleaned her the other night but it is likely she has some kind of infectious process underway inside her.

Everything points to the same outcome as Daisy, the greatest hen ever.

The vet will see her at 4:00 pm tomorrow, 8:00 am Wednesday in Sydney. I am preparing myself for the worst. I will not draw this out for her just to have more time for myself.

I need to decide who she would like to have as a companion on her journey now that Sansa is gone. I'm thinking Hattie might be best but there is also Aurora.

It seemed right today to recreate one of Lilly's great stories. Here is "The Thanksgiving Chicken" on the dining room table one more time.

I'm so sorry to read this. I know we all have different favorites of your flock when we probably should not, but Lily is mine. I really hope you get hopeful news with her tomorrow, but if not know she is loved by many. Thank you for saving her and Patsy and giving her the best life. If it is meant to be her time soon, she has 2 very special friends waiting for her on the other side.

I sure hope there is something we can do for her. I know that Lilly has many fans including @Shadrach and yourself.

After all you made her an honorary Maran!

I am very comfortable that Lilly has had a great life here and I'm proud of what we have been able to provide her with. Fingers crossed we are not done yet.

Roosted

Lilly has roosted with Hattie tonight. 🥰

Bob, I started a reply earlier, but I don’t know where it went. I was saying I did not like the looks of Lilly’s body language one bit and they asked about her pumping tail and vent. I’m very sorry she’s dealing with this.
Thanks for reposting. I lost one earlier as well. I am very concerned but she will be getting help from a professional. You never know.

I will admit. I trim… it’s too cold and wet to be washing the chicken bottoms so when the dingleberries get dry and I have the opportunity… snip, snip! With the numbers I have and the mud we get baths just aren’t feasible. The bigger girls, especially the meat bird holdbacks have the WORST bottoms!
Oh, I snip feathers on Little Mill’s bum, too.
