Since little Ezzie moved from the incubator to the brooder 4 hours ago she has done the following...
*Bit me when I went to take her out of the incubator.
*Pooped on me while I was trying to teach her to drink.
*Decided that instead of eating, she should hop into my lap to take a nap and while she had me won over, pooped on me again.
*The look she gives me, she has no regrets for biting me or pooping on me.
I'm in love already with her attitude.

Everyone meet the poop machine Ezzie!!

O. M. G. What a ball of fluff! Bob you need one (or maybe 2) of these !!!!

Oh how I wish I could hatch some Silkies with my little ladies 🤗

I have a slightly different solution, I steal the added eggs and stuff them under the next broody… it seemed to keep the girls happy, Babies for everyone! 😂
No one else is broody and I hadn't been able to get under her to mark the original eggs. The trio that developed were in different stages, so wouldn't have hatched about the same time either. I am keeping a carton on the counter, so next broody gets loaded at once...if she keeps the others out.

Brrrr. Stay warm and safe. Hope all the animals are OK.

Edited to add this because I checked the NJ weather: 'snow squalls on their way low visibility stay off the roads weather warning'. WTH?! It isn't even that cold.
Sorrrryyyy! A gift from your neighbour to the north 🤗, beautiful crisp snow squalls!

Enjoy!

Winter is back

I was out in the run with the ladies when this popped up on my phone.

The Squall arrives. Notice the high winds gusts.

I ducked back in the run to finish moving the camera in the Cluckle Hut. Betty hung out on the porch safe from the storm while everyone else went into the big coop.

Phyllis eventually came out and the Polish did not let the storm curtail their scratching time.

In only minutes it was completely white outside.

I finished and went back inside but this one scooted out the door as I was coming in.

Out in her native weather. Davis thinks she is nuts.
Still windy but not as bad, still under a squall warning and it's darn chilly! I bought the horses in an hr ago...

White knuckle drives! Yes done those up the 400 many times.... I do not ever do that again. If it's bad I stay home.

It is bitterly cold here with the high winds, the snow is like icy grit hitting your face, my pathway I shovelled this morning has blown in with snow I may as well have not shovelled it! For all the sun shining it's wicked cold, the wind almost blew me over walking to the barn. And now even I am getting zero visibility with white outs.

I can only imagine what it's like out in open areas! just checking the weather-network on TV to see when the wind will drop off, but lots of bad weather in the Maritimes also! February is always a bad winter weather month, nature trying for one last hurrah!
Sounds familiar.....then there's the March/April soppy blizzards....

In my readings, it definitely tames them down.. Supposedly wethers are the 'go to' companion goat for a lone female...and since they don't go through the mating rut thingy, they supposedly don't have the awful male stink going on, either. How 'mature' is Jimmy? The younger the better from what I have read.

That said, I don't have goat, so it is only reading, not first hand knowledge. Sometimes there is unexplained variance between the two.🤷‍♀️

As I am sure you are aware, goats in general are still rambunctious, curious, friendly, and into trouble regardless of gender!:lau

Not sure if using just burdezios will reduce the amount of testosterone, here we elastrate male goats, lambs, and day old bull calves. Colts get gelded around 1 or 2 yrs old.

It definitely quiets them down, makes them less aggressive.

Sure hope your billy, settles down...
😂 Jimmy is a little over one year, and although I can’t smell him at all, I have been assured by our company that he indeed does have a certain “fragrance” about him… used to be I could smell the bachelor herds hundreds of feet away, now they can sneak up on me! I want to use the Elastrator but apparently the little donut bands aren’t “adequate” for a more mature guy… I would need to either invest in a fancy $300 foolproof dohickey, or a $50 California bander that I’ve never used before. (If Ardy is pregnant and has a boy he’s getting the little donut treatment right away!)
