Last night I was reading more information on Cinnamon Queens in order to prepare myself for their future needs. For instance I learned they have a higher calcium need than my current flock members. While the layer feed I use is fine with them with no additional calcium supplements, I am going to start supplementing Oyster Shell when the new chicks come close to laying. Then I started looking at pictures of chicks and I have spotted a potential problem. Every picture I found while they can have chipmunk markings, they are red. My 3, normal brown chipmunk chicks. Do I even have Cinnamon Queen chicks? We all know Rural King and Tractor Supply can mislabel chick bins. I know when we picked them out the employee was upset because they had been placed in a bin with Americauna pullets who were also chipmunk marked. I really do not think these are americauna's though as the lady pointed out they were distinguishable because they were bearded and leg color was different. Right now I am going to keep my suspicions to myself and not tell mom, but I am going to watch them very closely. Lets be honest, if there was a mess up and they are a different breed I personally will not be upset. As long as they are not boys, then I will be upset.
This is what according to everything I've read and saw Cinnamon Queen chicks should look like.

So what do you all think, am I crazy on thinking there was a mix up?
Time will tell. I bought my first chicks from TSC and they were supposed to be Buff Orpingtons. One actually was. Two died. The fourth was a white leghorn. I was not happy of course, but I ended up loving my leghorn, Blanche, and when I lost her a year later I was devastated.
TSC mixes their chicks up all the time, and the staff who work there do not know one chick from another.

Ok going from memory on the listed breeds Rural king had friday. They had 3 bins of Rhode Island Reds, Americauanas, Easter Eggers, and Cinnamon Queens. I can eliminate the other breeds due to being the wrong chick color. It is obvious these are not the Sapphire Gems, Barred Rocks, Jersey Giants, Buff orps or Black Sex links.
That's also hinging on them being labeled correctly from the hatchery. Some have a reputation.....

@BY Bob 300+ pages in less than 20 days (8000 on 2/7/2022) That's 15+ pages per day....no wonder why I can't completely catch up on the 'old'. :caf:th

I cannot believe that we are moving at that pace. That is crazy. So glad I'm not trying to catch up from the start!

RIR chick vid.
Cinnamon Queen chick vid. (not the best, but does show some chipmunking)
Americauna chicks

Hope this helps:idunno
I may be totally wrong, but I'm beginning to suspect I have easter eggers. They just have too much brown in their chick down. The first chicks momma hen hatched were easter egger crosses. All but 1 of them hatched out chipmunk colored. Whatever they are they are super friendly. Over the weekend me and Rosie would get them out individually and together several times a day to bond with them. Ezzie and all 3 orps if given the opportunity gravitate toward Rosie. My little chipmunks, prefer me. Rosie is rubbing it in that MY silkie and the orps love her more.

Have you had a shift in the pecking order, Bob? My crowers have tended to be one of the top hens but I have had exceptions. Morrigu crowed but with her I think it was a dominance issue. Ha'penny [Campine] & Nuggest [BA] have crowed. Luna often sounds like Sydney. I call it her whinging voice because she tends to vocalise all day ~ usually loudly. :barnieI suspect my top hen is now Ha'penny because Luna is a gentle soul who wouldn't fight for that position but will be an excellent subordinate, being far calmer & far less prone to drama than my Campines. Aoife is the present enforcer. This will be interesting. I'm pretty sure my mad women shouldn't be in charge of anything but it is what it is.
As far as I can tell, the order remains the following
  1. Lilly
  2. Aurora
  3. Hattie
  4. Sydney
  5. Phyllis
  6. Betty
That is why I don't think it is crowing. I just can't figure out what she is doing. Lilly has crowed a few times but not often.

It is interesting watching what is going on since Betty joined the tribe and then what the raised open platform of the Cluckle Hut has given them. It seem quite enjoyable for them to hang out on it.

Perfect opening…

Remember treats are “treats”. First time we had had KFC in two or more years! 😂 a hunter brought it with him, the weather was foul, so we hung out and chatted most of the first night in the trailer… second day he bagged a 2point buck, in the far field so Arduinna and I had to help him get it over three fences and about 400’ to his truck!
Hilariously cute!

Happy Mugs Monday!
