Too much other good food to eat. So they avoided the trap.
Mice are my biggest health worry as we have had cases of Hanta virus here - and with all the mice in the barn it worries me.

The consuming of the Ratak has slowed/stopped so I am guessing the population is dropping off. I will get in the loft tomorrow and see how the bait stations I posted there fared.

I have been keeping chicken food etc locked away esp at night so hopefully I can keep them under control.

I'm glad you were able to bring her home. This will be quite challenging for you for some time. The best advice I can give is to make certain you give yourself time to rest as well. Even if you need to hire some help so you can get away for a bit. You need to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.

Black one: black or black split orpington
I have to think on the blue/grey one, but might as well go with lavender orpington, just because I don't have a better guess, lol
I'll wait to guess on the chipmunk one until more details/better photos, but that one will be, in all honesty, impossible to 'know' due to so many breeds having that colour chick.

where did you get these adorable chicks?

aka Hattie. She does not have a lavender orpington. (He said and then furiously went back to check the pictures)

Confirmed. Not with that face coloring.

Well I’ve gone and done it… I’m blaming @RoyalChick this time! I was late in collecting the eggs, left them in nest boxes until evening (working on so many projects here…) and when I went to put up the girls… I had three grumpy, broody, wannabe mamas. One departed immediately after I stole her eggs, another pecked at my hand, but was easily relocated to a roost, but the last was my bully girl. I gave her about a dozen eggs, all greens, and set her up in a broody apartment… we will see how it goes. She hatched out two batches of chicks last year. So I’m going to see if she’s as serious as usual.
This is exciting. I need to mark the calendar! 🥰
