Funny enough a friend was talking on this very subject today plus people that have put their backs into their work for many years never losing time don't ever seem too get a promotion anymore. What's happening to the work force? This appears too have been going on for well over a decade here in UK.
Take me back 30 years you were so much appreciated by the bosses when you treated your colleagues with respect and worked to the best of your ability.

I am instilling the opposite culture here. We promote from within first.

We reward loyalty and try to provide a raise every year. We gave everyone an extra 5 days of PTO and even added 4 paid holidays this year.

You can get ones that are higher watts and therefore warmer, but you cannot use them with plastic. I have one of those 5gallon plastic buckets with horizontal nipples and you can just stand the bucket on this.
I usually plug it into a thermo-cube that turns it on at 35 degrees so it isn't on all the time but only when needed.

And in breaking news, I have pulled the heated base out of storage and admitted that carrying out water every 2 hours is really about as much fun as it sounds!

Should have followed my lead. I've been doing this far too long.

Today's high temperature here was a record low for this date. Windchill in the single digits tonight. So stupid.

Glad that you have some power here to effect change and help make their employment experience a good one. You have such a good heart!

Thanks, now to research if rubber works on it...should be able to find something.

Yes rubber is fine - I had a rubber feed bowl on it when I was cleaning out the bucket. It is only 30W so less than a regular light bulb in a room.

That's awesome nice to see good employment practices.

Right now here in Ontario it's an employee's market, there is quite a shortage of labour across the board. Wages though are still stagnant, and housing costs are off the charts, were I live you do not work in the area and own a house, you either commute to Toronto to work, or like me work out of province. It's so expensive here people who work in the area have a hard time finding affordable housing.

It causing quite a dilemma for farmers who want to sell their farms for multi-millions. The govt has tried to quash this as the need for farm land and rural land is very important here. But it's hard to create green belts....

I am happy with my little slice of paradise with my horses and chickies, and hope I am a very very old cranky lady before I need to worry about being encroached upon by development!

Oh but what you don't realize is a hot flash is followed by sweating which makes you chilled so you then freeze!

All we can do is sigh (or curse) take a deep breath and move on.
