When my girls were chicks, I was amazed at all the pre-bedtime pushing and shoving when they were still sleeping in a pile in the corner of the coop. After all those shenanigans, they would finally be settled and one would decide to try walking over everyone's backs and it would all start again! These little Hooligans are hilarious. They are just like adults with their roosting shenanigans only it is all going on under the heat plate.
Every night there is a ruckus at bed time. Every night I worry something bad happened. Every night they are jostling under the heat plate. Occasionally a tail or a head emerges and then goes back under. They are just squabbling about who sleeps where.
Crazy chickies.
Kale, my birds go crazy for it. What’s up with that ?I Hope you can grow a garden that they don't get into. Mine always find a way, especially if it has kale in it!![]()
I hope you are correct but I fear you will not be.It’s only four feet high. So I’m hoping that they lose interest in that part of the yard.![]()

I thought that it must be so exhausting to be a chick!
She doesn't know it's electrified until she misjudges the flight.....She flew over the electric net? Wow.
Then I add, to make it higher!I hope you are correct but I fear you will not be.
In hindsight, I think @BY Bob knows exactly what happens when chickens come to the dinner table! Can you just imagine the chaos when they go for everyone's food
And they flew over that, onto the horse fencing? Gezzz I’m in troubleHere is the mesh and the board fencing, I ran the mesh about a foot in from the board fencing hoping it would prevent them from flying up onto the board fence.... Last year I had the mesh up tight along the board fence.
I think I will put mesh about a foot or so higher on the board fencing....

It's such a shame as they really do have the looks. I know Shad doesn't buy into breed personalities but as a generalisation I do. Vorwerks are mean. They were monsters into the leadup to Soda's passing. Thankfully someone put the fear of retribution into them & they calmed down ~ Aoife, I think. It got ugly & I almost never have tribe disputes so I wasn't happy. I'm still not 100% sure what the arrangements are now. Either Luna or Ha'penny is lead hen with Aoife doing the enforcing but it is all very subtle as neither Luna nor Ha'penny are bossy hens.I had high hopes for them but they just haven't panned out.![]()
