Avian Flu

There are now 4 poultry farms here with this Flu, and a red Tail Hawk has been diagnosed with it. I guess I will have to keep my gals contained inside, there are so many wild birds here now that I worry about them catching it from them.

i am surprised there is no poultry vaccine for this flu, there is one for the horses, oh and of course people. I am surprised with the amt of money spent on the poultry industry they don't have a vaccine.

More tax photos, I guess. Cost to benefit ratio and the bottom line rules supreme. Chickens in the industry are viewed as disposable, and low value animals. With such a low life expectancy (2years max for layers and 8 weeks for meat birds) it is cheaper and easier to cull and start over than to treat them so there just isn’t any financial incentive to get a vaccine for it.

Those of us who guessed early in the day we’re contacted my the moderators and asked to help keep it going throughout the day.

So far my favourite one was the we are going moderator free… now I just stay out of the pests and predators forum, and the meat bird forum, so no worries there! but really if you’re a vegetarian or vegan why on earth are you looking under “meat Birds etc…”?

Yes for sure

They don't fly over the side with no fence to hop up on.

I think I will run some mesh or netting a foot or so higher on the board fencing.

I need to put up a permanent run when it dries a bit, I want to put both a combo of netting where the trees are, and a solid roof were I can to stop them from flying out, and prevent hawks from flying in.

This is a very good idea.

I set a mousetrap in my bedroom (snap trap) peanut butter as bait. So far they have been feasting on the bait, but never spring the trap. (Before you peeps start in on how cruel I am, I can’t stand mice! And there’s a lot of them in this area)
Ruins costly chicken feed, and spread so many germs.

She doesn't know it's electrified until she misjudges the flight.....

That wasn’t my amazement. It is flying over 4’. Flying up to 4’ is easy. But even my Roadrunners wouldn’t soar over a 4’ fence from ground level.
