Can you filter? Or is that really expensive?
It’s on my shopping list as a next big buy. We did a quick cost/savings between that and the batteries and went with rechargeable batteries now. $75 on batteries, but it will save us more faster and was less initial cost than the $250 on a good filter. The 5gallon Jugs are only $7 and we go though around one a week. Only for drinking/cooking. I’ve switched the trailer tank to rainwater collection with a funnel, garden hose and a tarp. If I ever clean up the pallet patio I’ll get some pics you can all laugh at (but it works!) We can go through 8D and 16AA’s a week easy depending on lantern and headlamp use. So I’ve got 48 rechargeable batteries coming… first. Income season is coming though!!!

I'm so sorry they were so insensitive. There is no excuse. :hugs:hugs

One of the reasons that Éowyn goes to the new chicken vet is how poorly the previous vet treated my beloved Dr. Zoidberg when he had cancer. How can they be that insensitive. It displays a coldness that is hard to reconcile with an organization that is supposed to care for animals.

Dr. Z

He loved Christmas wrapping paper and Davis. They were buddies.

I’m sorry to hear that Dr Zoidberg wasn’t looked after with compassion. :hugs

Not good, I am so sorry this happened to you. Losing a beloved animal is already too hard, and heartbreaking, but to add confusion and delays like to on top is just awful. I wonder, was the vet nurse new? It may be worth calling in in a few days and explaining to someone in a more managerial position, or your vet what happened and how traumatic the delays and mix ups were. They might be able to look at their internal procedures for handling pets that pass without the owner present in the future, and you could potentially spare someone else a similar situation. My Cats vet is very good about everything, and they are usually all very kind and empathetic people. There may have been some confusion, as I hear it isn’t uncommon for people to not be able to take their pets home to bury, and that some people won’t even be there for them in their final moments when having a pet put to sleep.
My vet has given me his email address so we can see if any environmental elements need improving, so I will tell him about it then.

Chooks update for today is: Arizona is back to her normal running self. No more limping on her leg. All the rest of the kids choose to hang around the coop area of yard. Rarely do they venture out to the west side of the yard (dust bath willow bush) . To them, there’s a time and place for everything they do. :idunno

Today we had the same weather as kris so no chicken photos.
This evening we had a heartbreak. Our beautiful girl Star past away. She was sweet, silly, exasperating, and extra cuddly always. We had her most of her 16.5 years. She hadn't been herself the last week, tonight she left us rather suddenly with both of us holding her.
I’m sorry for Star’s passing. So hard to lose them especially after so many years with them. :hugs:hugs

Amendment: the pecking order is still a mess, so it’s not all flowers and unicorn farts around here!

RIP Penguin

I’m really sad to say that Penguin died in the night. She was at the vet hospital and was going to have an X-ray in the morning, but she was having difficulty breathing. So they did one in the night and it looked like she had cancer that had spread to her lungs. She was only around 1 1/2. RIP my sweet sassy miss. :hit
