Softest hens to hold in my opinion:
Rocks-Anne is soft and loves to cuddle with me.
The two redheaded gals are not quite as soft.
The five other Rocks aren’t as soft.
But if I’m looking for soft, it’s certainly Hen-Rietta. Melts into my arms like a warm cake of butter. (Hard to explain, but she’s the softest Leghorn I’ve ever held) :old

Yes Dorothy is like that 😊

Btw - hi! Haven't heard from you in a few days... 🐓🐎

So I went to retrieve Penguin from the vet after work. I had mostly been ok all day, hadn’t cried until I got there. I went in, said I was there to pick her up, a vet came and talked to me about what the diagnosis was (most likely cancer, possibly bone cancer that then metastasised to her lungs) then I sat there for another 45 FRICKIN’ MINUTES waiting for them to get their sh*t together whilst in obvious distress! The vet nurse thought I was waiting for a consult, then worked out I was there to collect my dead pet, then faffed about with how much it cost (don’t ask for resuscitation, it adds $100 to your bill). Then retrieved the pet carrier WITHOUT her in it, then finally brought her to me. When I got her out to the car, I stopped to check it was actually her in the carrier! I then drove home which took over half an hour, in the dark, whilst bawling my eyes out! Hubby has dug a hole for me, now I’m going to give her a cuddle before I bury her.
First off I am giving you hugs (hugs hugs hugs) 💖

Second you need to send that Vet clinic a very scathing letter by MAIL outlining your experience. I would also point out that those of us with pets do not mind spending time, effort and money for our beloved pets and we would appreciate some compassion and understanding from the likes of him and his staff.

And also point out that just because it's a hen doesn't mean that creature is any less cherished.

Oh I am so furious with that Vet clinic treating you in such a manner. (More hugs).

Seems to be a shortage of good honest caring veterinarians these days.

Sorry rant so much I am just gobsmacked with how you were treated 😢😢😢

I'm so sorry they were so insensitive. There is no excuse. :hugs:hugs

One of the reasons that Éowyn goes to the new chicken vet is how poorly the previous vet treated my beloved Dr. Zoidberg when he had cancer. How can they be that insensitive. It displays a coldness that is hard to reconcile with an organization that is supposed to care for animals.

Dr. Z

He loved Christmas wrapping paper and Davis. They were buddies.

@RoyalChick I Need Identification Help :D

Actually, I seriously do. I got some chicks and there were supposedly 3 'free pullets' included. One looks so much like my welsummers that I'm not sure which of 2 ISN'T the Welsummer. The other 2 are below.

This is what I DO know about them:
A) They are standard size (not bantams)
B) They are white egg layers
C) They come from Meyer Hatchery

I looked at the options and come up with 2 or 3 plausible (I think) for each. So, any assistance you can lend in identifying the breed would be awesome.

Both Chicks together:

And, yes, they are already interested in BeakBook! 🤷‍♀️ Thankfully they are still pretty innocent right now and are just looking at broody mommy pics!!!

Edited to add link to Meyer's While egg Layers

the cookies n cream they list is a mottled Houdan hybrid. Not sure if the top knot would breed through or not. The black back is on the Houdan (also no 5 toes, so unlikely for cnc or houdan), but it's also on the exchequer leghorn and the mottled Ancona and the silver spangled Hamburg (the leg color eliminates that one: blue legs). The yellow one (A) is likely an austra white. If it is, it should develop the occasional splash marking, not all over like PITA and Blanche are (they're white Sapphires though). Waiting is not easy, but as they feather in, you'll have a better idea. BTW, Houdans grow their feathers in matching the black and white lines on them. The mottling starts with their 12 week adult moult. Dunno if that happens with the Ancona or Exchequer too.
