I currently have 34 chickens. 14 designated for egg laying and 24 silkies. I plan on hatching silkie chicks and then selling them. I first got hooked on chickens around two years ago, started with two chickens, and look where I am now!😂 Actually, 36 chickens, two chicks hatched out from a broody momma this past week. Their daddy is a grey silkie and I believe their mother is a black sex link. I'll include pictures!
Look at all those pretty fluff balls! Absolutely stunning. Welcome. Also worth noting Bob has created something of an international melting pot here with Aussies, friends in the UK, and clear from the Eastern coast of North America to the western coast… so please excuse my posting at ridiculous hours… it’s not even midnight here and I just had to catch up on several pages of posts! I also absolutely refuse to get up at 3 or 4 am just to keep up with early birds three or more time zones ahead of me! Hi from the west coast of Canada!

Caturday is not on Bob's thread. It's on Ribh's thread.

Oh isn't it funny how they have us so well trained!

Your girls are lovely 💖
She certainly has me under control. She has the first hearty breakfast this morning. I'm surprised how she's taken it on the beak with no sulking or upset. It's almost like she feels extra special.

I'm bigger and better than the rest. I have my very own sleeping quarters and I'm getting fed first 🐔

Housing and Bird Move Update

Hi, friends. Thanks for your inquiries about the move and for all your input regarding chicken housing at the new place. I have an update. We will not be moving after all.

Drumroll, please…

We bought the house we’ve been renting the past 12 1/2 years! We are beyond excited. Just got confirmation that we officially closed and recorded with the county about an hour ago. We don’t have to move. My feathered babies don’t have to move. My human babies will always be able to come home to their childhood home. I feel truly blessed!
That’s awesome! I’m so happy for you! :hugs

First a sulking broody mug, how dare I open that door!

And next another sad post. It has been a difficult week/month. Last night our beautiful girl Precious Princess (we didn't name her) found her way to peace. Also about 16 years old, she fought hard at the end, but had developed a nasty infection. She and her brother Puff have been with us about 4 years. They just moved in one day and when their person (a neighbor) had to move and couldn't take them she asked if we would keep them.

Star and Precious as close as they could stand to be. RIP girls.
From four down to two in 3 weeks. It has been a shock.
My advice is don't have animals all the same age!
