Wow that's brazen! We hardly ever see fox or coyotes or wolves during the day and not out in the open!

That's an amazing photo!

I quite often see them in the day. Mainly foxes. This particular one has been going on a regular grocery store run along the driveway a couple of times a day on most days this week. I assume there is a den with babies nearby.

Yes - I am worried by Bernadette who seems to have less strength in her legs than the others (I am restarting her intense vitamin regimen).
I am worried about Maggie who has had diarrhea for a month now - fecal sample found no worms or eggs and she is well in herself but it isn't right.
I am worried about DIana because of the soft shell eggs and still laying several a week.
I am worried about all the Hooligans because they don't seem very adventurous but hang out in the brooder napping. It is nothing I can put my finger on - they have moments of crazy running around - but mainly they hang out comfortably with each other napping and chatting.
And finally I am worried about everyone because the duck is back and I worry about AI.
Seriously, I am going through lots of chicken anxiety at the moment.
And last night no fewer than 3 foxes watched me lock up the Chicken Palace.

Baby fox are very cute

The Nature of Things did a documentary on foxes a couple years ago, very interesting, and gave me insight into their behaviour. But it didn't prepare me for them killing Roxanne and Stanley last year. It was in the evening - now everyone is locked up in the barn at 5. My only worry now is racoons.

I worry about one crawling down from the hay mow or over the back door where I have a space for the swallows to fly through. I lock everyone away at 8 in the hen house but between 5 and 8 they roam the barn... Also while I am at work they are unattended in the barn.

Huge worry to me not sure how to prevent the back door, maybe a stands of electric fencing across the doorway..?

I will be blocking the hay mow access today.

I used to worry about Sophia's loose stools but she is thriving and seems ok so I just put it down to something she does.

As for soft eggs I am getting those also! I now think it's the old hen Penelope. Everyone is active and eating so I guess they are ok.

My Veterinarian once told me I look at my horses too much and see things that aren't there... He told me he bet that my gals had bouts of tummy ache from gas at nights and would never know as I was asleep....

I told him not so! I have cams in each stall and I was awake at least 3 or 4 times a night checking them.... He told me 'stop it! You'll make yourself crazy'.

Too late, I am now officially the crazy cat/horse/chicken lady who lives down the road.

Bubba and Branch stepped up their game yesterday after Basil left. Basil had been taking on the role of staying with the momma's protecting the chicks. Yesterday Bubba stepped into that role flawlessly. He was on alert, and was feeding them when the mommas would let him. Branch stayed and guarded and escorted the other girls and hooligans. Being raised as brothers from hatch I thought these 2 would end up making the perfect team.
Bubba also is standing a little taller and prouder now. With Basil he was the lowest on the totem pole.

Owww milk crate butt hahaha have had that before I have slept on bales of hay - very scratchy though.

I now keep a folding camp chair out here complete with a built in side table to hold my tea, water etc hahahaha.

In the summer it's cooler in the barn, so that just sit and commune with the horses, and now the chickies sometime I wonder what they think of me hanging out with them

I have a cement brick under a tree out there

Nope… I would rather nap on poopy ground than hay, Hay has Spiders! Big bitey creepy crawly spiders. Even covered by sheets and blankets in December there are spiders… scratchy I can handle, Arachnids? Hard No.
