Thank you everyone for the beak tips. It is good to know that it will eventually regrow. She has no problem eating. I will have Rosie help me later today to get pictures of her beak. The hooligans and I have a nightly routine once they get on the roost. I spend a good 10 minutes or longer each night rubbing each of their crops and massaging them on their backs. They love it and I really need more then 2 hands as they are all fighting to be the one getting rubbed. Thanks to this I do know each night Siri has went to bed with her crop full. I hate that this happened and I wish I knew how she managed this. Of course it would happen to the friendliest of the 3 orps and my personal favorite. Siri is the one who if I'm rubbing one of the other chicks will fly off the roost and land on my shoulder to snuggle up for more attention. She and Ezzie are my favorites out of the hooligans. But then, it is hard to pick a favorite when they are all clamoring for attention.

Maybe you could get video of that tonight. It sounds blissful.

Neither. Whole, but chopped so in smaller pieces (I just put a handful on teh cutting board and go to town on them...using my other hand to somewhat keep them from flying off as they get chopped. ) I aim for them to be 1/3 - 1/4 the size of whole ones when done, but I don't fuss too much.

BTW: It can be great stress relief, taking it out on the seeds! :lol:

I also wonder if you really have to use pumpkin, or if any variety of curcurbita Pepo would do, or in fact any squash. We don't grow pumpkins anymore because they invaded everything and we didn't eat them, but we grow butternuts, red khuri squash, our local village squash, spaghetti squash, Nice squash and so on. I'm wondering which to chose.

Most curcurbita will do, They do vary some in the active ingredient that essentially paralyses the worms, but I wouldn't think so much difference that it still wouldn't help!

Edit: :eek: You don't eat pumpkin...boy are you missing out!! ( LOL ) I love pumpkin cooked like a squash, and pumpkin pie, and pumpkin bread........mmmm, mmmm, good!
But yes, Butternut I know would be good for this, and some other winter squashes.......not sure about the summer squashes, would have to read up some more. [Yes, the one'bad' thing about pumpkins is they are open pollinated, so if planted too close, will cross with other squashes...so if you save the seeds, who knows what you will get the next season.]

We had a little funeral for Rocks-Anne today. First there was the showing. I presented her lifeless body to the tribe, and then I made a speech, then asked if anyone else had something to say. Hen-Rietta did her little squeak, and Jaffar did a rooster crowing call (as expected) the rest of the birds did their squawking. After the burial, we had a short wake, with meally worms, and two ears of corn 🌽. Rest In Peace dear friend Rocks-Anne.

This sounds lovely. If only all our wonderful friends were able to have such a nice send off.
