This is Armed Forces Appreciation weekend (military town hereWhy so much activity? Do they fly every day?!

Borden is the largest training facility in Canada and home to the 400 squadron (helicoptor); so we are used to lots of helicoptors flying over here at all times, and lots of booms from live fire exercises. But the F-18s are a treat - they are out of Cold Lake AB; lots of remote boreal forest to fly over at super sonic speeds - having been on the receiving end of them on a project up in AB one winter !!! WOW! scary until you know what it is

The Snowbirds I think are out of Manitoba (I am thinking Shilo - could be wrong).
Been to the air show many times, and there is no bad seat at all - the viewing area is right along the runway and when those f-18s go by its awesome - only thing more terrifying/awesome is a 'blowdown' of a 48" natural gas pipeline - which is admittadly more scary as it goes on for up to 2 minutes - your whole body just rattles with the shockwaves - from both f-18 and the gas blow-down hahaha.
At the airshow the f-18s come in from behind the spectators and just scream overhead - if you are not aware its going to happen its terrifying!!! Lots of wee kiddies crying - poor wee things (parents don't bring your kiddies to an airshow until they are at least 10 yrs old!). We took my niece one year - she was 10, and she wanted to 'try out' the cockpit on the display - so we climbed up the ladder and just when she got up to the top I could see the headlight on the jet coming towards us - I looked at the airman helping out and started laughing - he also did - he knew what was going to happen - julia had her back to it.... when it screamed overhead julia jumped into my arms almost knocking me down the ladder (duh - dumb aunt kelly!). To give her credit she laughed and told me off for tricking her.
Conversely the Snowbirds come in facing the crowd - you see all of their headlights heading towards you as spots in the sky - they put on an awesome display.
OK Tax for getting off topic
We ain't 'fraid o' no f-18s... but just in case we will stay under this tree
