Oh this is a very difficult picture for me - it comes just as a friend of mine, whose son breeds Nubian goats, offered to bring me a few and help fix up the barn for them to live in.
I do not need goats.
Really, I do not need goats.
Repeat after me, I do not need goats!
Soooo adorable!
Um, correct me if I am wrong, but you have long wanted that barn repaired/improved. What a GREAT trade-off. Repaired barn for the honor of hosting some adorable Nubians. Win-win in my opinion!

Besides, they will keep some of the brushy/woody weeds in check. Including poison Ivy & bittersweet.:D

Hard to tell from the picture but it could be arnica or another asteracae. Many are toxic internally (though if it is arnica it's very useful topically) but I have arnica and asters and my hens don't touch them.
Do they have two small leaves that face each other , that helps to recognize arnica ?
Or if you have a mobile with internet you can use plantnet, an application to recognize plants by taking a picture.
I found out what these are I had totally forgotten, I was searching for bee and butterfly plants and was advised this plant would attract them. They are really considered to be a weed and they are Corn Marigolds. :) Not good for chickens 😕

Plus RC could potentially land up keeping the goats :D

Okay, so I looked back - I had messaged someone on the 30th of May, and it was almost 2 weeks then.....so about 5 weeks. In that time went from fighting trying to take on older/dominant Roo ( and winning sometimes.) To hurting his leg and not standing (I thought because of pain)in a 48 hour time span....brought him in, and in 5 weeks went from shaking legs standing (again, thought it was pain, treated wounds and gave him ibuprofen for pain), to couldn't stand, but could still move lower legs & had weak grip in feet....to no use of legs now...no resistance at all during exercises, not a glimmer of grip with feet.

If anyone thinks it is something else, feel free to offer suggestions for treatment. But the poor guy just can't live like this and I have no idea what else I can do for him.
I'm so sad to read this. Soaking in Epson and vinegar for swelling maybe but I can't see that working after so long. Tina hurt her leg and foot and that seemed to help her.

At last a white hen at FBA! That photo of Rose with the polish has got my day off to the best start ever!

Congratulations Bob!!

:wee
:woot:celebrate
It is great to have a white hen again. May we always have one. 😁

Mrs BY Bob with a polish chicken is a joy to see.

I am strong!
I am already realizing that 7 chickens is a much bigger handful than 4 chickens. I tried to lock them in a little early this evening because the weather is miserable and I kept only finding 6. And I swear it was a different one missing each time.
And I cannot figure out how to get Bernadette to take her Vitamin B2 so I am terrified she will go lame again.
So bottom line I am in no shape to take on goats right now.
I do not need goats. I do not need goats. I do not even need goats with floppy ears!
Once Hector got outside on a regular basis, his feet settled down really quickly...I also added a handful of rice krispies to the scratch for all of them. (It has a B vitamin smorgasbord in it) It won't hurt the others and is available in a way that gets them outside.

Yes, a white hen should be FBA fixture. Will you name her after TGHE?

I know I'm anthropomorphising, but the polish is leaning in and saying cheeeeeeese! And they both look so happy.

Bob, when you say 'fence them off' do you mean they're fenced off by the little coop or have you put a little fence around the coop?
There is a perimeter fence around the coop. They cannot interact with each other at all. I'll try and remember to get some photos of the setup.
