I think the turkey was toying with him!!!
Hahahaha

They can be aggressive and the toms are huge!!! I love at this time of the year when the chicks (what are baby turkey called???) and a bunch of mama birds all get together to help raise and protect the babies. You can see 30 or more - terrifying for the horse when you out riding and come across them haha!

I came clean when they were about 3 weeks old, to encourage continual bonding. He is okay with them, as he had kinda warmed up to them before knowing, and I promised to process them if they became aggressive towards him. But, tbh, I don't think I could. Sampson, always comes over when I am near the pen and chats with me. I am a bit upset with hubby, though. His idea of continuing to bond with them is, on weekends, if he happens to be near their pen, he will say 'hi' as he walks by. I've chastized him about this lack of effort...and am praying that they see him enough to not be aggressive, even if they aren't truly 'friendly' towards him.🙏 at least he hasn't disowned me over it.....I knew his was a somewhat irrational fear from something when he was a kid, and given his kind heart...I knew he wouldn't be freaked out if he had them grow up in front of his eyes. But, I also know him well...unlike you all. Please know I wouldn't have tricked him if I thought he would be terrified...that would have just been down right cruel...and I'm not that. (I probably give that impression at times, though...😬
You certainly didn't give me that impression, I'd say you are a thoughtfull helpful person 😉

(Unless it's a broody hen... then it doesn't. They are like, "Oh, an egg, *roll it under* 'that's one'
Oh, an egg! That's one.
Oh an egg! ..."
By the time they are done, the number is still "one" and the all boxes besides her's are devoid of eggs.
....and golf balls, light bulbs, tennis balls..... 😆

No, they are just greedy as broodies. They don't say 'that's one' they just say, ohh, good, one more' and don't try to count them until someone tries to subtract from their nest.
Broody hen math:
+1 egg = good
'steal' 1 egg = REALLY good
- 1 egg = bad
- more than one egg = I will come at you like a possessed devil!
someone reaching under me to check my eggs = I'll peck your eyes out!

🤣
Actually, yesterday I set 7 full size eggs and three bantam eggs aside for someone who has a broody, but no rooster, and wanted eggs. Looked in this morning, and my tiny banty broody is spread out as far as she could and only covering a little over half of them...😂
I took them all away, and the screaming that ensued....
