Ya I hear ya, I was so very much hoping she had turned a corner, I need to read up on this virus I have not heard of it, wonder if there is a vaccine??

Rest in Peace my bella Bella

My beautiful Bella has died.
She was my dream chicken companion.

Always fashion-forward, her black snakeskin boots coordinated perfectly with her gorgeous blue, green, and purple, black feathers.

She was my first ever lap chicken. She was indescribably soft to touch, and right to the end she was grooming my hair and snuggling into my neck for a nap.

She was a loyal friend to Bernadette and stuck with her for months when she couldn't walk. In turn, Bernadette has been a constant visitor and companion for Bella.

She fought hard against the virus that killed her but it was all just too much. In the end she died peacefully and quite rapidly. She was close by her friends Bernadette and Lulu, and I was sitting with her. I hope she felt neither pain nor fear.

Bella now has a bottomless freezer filled with frozen corn, and I am left with a Bella-shaped hole in my heart.

Bon voyage Bella Dracula. You will always hold a special place in my memories.

I am so terribly sorry to hear this, @RoyalChick I had truly hoped she would get better. I know words can't ease the pain, but I am sending all my love and hugs your way. I am absolutely sure Bella was acutely aware of your love, and that of her friends. One could not have asked for a better, more attentive nor loving nurse and friend.

Oh no, I am soo soo sorry. I was praying she would be able to beat that awful virus. You gave her a fighting chance and I was hoping to hear soon she would have turned the corner. This is so not fair as you had finally gotten your dream black chicken. Take some time and grieve and enjoy your other 2 beauties. But please one day do not give up on your dream of having a black chicken.

Everything went good this morning. They buried the sutures so nothing needed removing. She is young and healing fast so no physical therapy. Rosie also spoke up and asked all the questions she has been asking me that I did not have answers to. She was disappointed because she will not set off a metal detector. That was quickly made ok when she found out she can never have a MRI. Most importantly, we have a date set. She asked the dr if she could just climb up and sit on Russ's back. He looked at her and told her no. He has 3 horses himself. She cannot raise her arm over her head or lift or pull with it. He said you do both when you climb into the saddle. He then looked at her new x-ray, and said 8 weeks from the day of surgery. She is allowed back on Russ September 13 if nothing goes wrong and she listens to him.

That is all wonderful news!
