Dotty
I am at a bit of a loss. She is no better, but also no worse. She spent the day in the shade, isolating herself from everyone else. I saw her drink but I don't think she ate much.
I have brought her in for an hour or two as it is very hot and she clearly suffers more in the heat. As I brought her in I did another look over. No egg on external examination - I can repeat the internal exam a bit later when she is cooler - but I honestly don't think there is an egg there.
So, I am left with a mystery:
- The diarrhea could be coccidia that for some reason wasn't resolved by the recent amprolium treatment. I could direct dose her amprolium or get an alternative
- The above logic could also apply to roundworm - she was direct dose treated but maybe it didn't resolve the issue and with the heat her defenses are down
- I could assume she is the producer of the lash egg and give her antibiotics - but there is no evidence she went into that box
I could go another day of watching and waiting. I am quite worried about her - her comb is very pale and she is clearly feeling miserable (made worse by the heat).
I really dunno what to do.
I would keep her in where it’s cooler, ensure she has fluids, and see if she is eating.

If you have antibiotics give those….

Would she be ok alone in the house?

I wish I had an answer for you but I don't. You have covered all the bases I know. I don't know what else you can do but watch her. I hope someone else has an idea.

Hello-

I do not know if I will ever catch up but I have been reading your amazing thread of conversations (currently I am 2020 and Sydney has just hatched her first clutch of tiny dragons) while my ankle heals from a break. I have learned so much from all of you already. I am new to chickens and just got my first chicks from Alchemist Farms yesterday. Just wanted to say thank you and introduce myself.View attachment 3212680
Oh my goodness babies !!!

Babies everywhere ! Even the lady at the feed mill has a teeny tiny new baby boy - soooo tiny just 2 weeks old

Babies babies babies ❤️💕

Oh hello btw! Sorry to hear about your ankle that’s just rotten luck. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Ok so I put Mr Pompei out in his little private paddock and he paced around a bit then settled under the pear tree until the sun moved around a bit so the side of his yard facing the gals was in shade. And he has been hanging out there happy to watch them .

The girls generally ignore him - poor Pom Pom!

He is magnificent. I guess he will need to win their love. 🥰

Little Danny. He's a 17 year old terrior with what appears to be a cancerous growth on his paw. It's been decided that treating him will only end his life sooner so his loving owner is leaving him to enjoy life as long as he can. ♥️

He is really enjoying his boat life!
What a splendid wee fella 💕

Always like terroirs so glad his owner is letting him enjoy his life what a good owner ❤️

She is fine in the house and I can bring her in when it gets hot each day.
She drinks fine when in the coop - but weirdly not when in the house - and she has been eating mash while in the house (though weirdly not in the coop).
She probably isn't eating enough but at least at the moment I am not worried about her fluid or nutrient intake (I lace the mash with sugar water and electrolytes).
I think she is less stressed with her flock - she wants to roost with them even if she isn't running around during the day with them.

Just so I understand, why would you give antibiotics? On the theory that she laid the lash egg and that it is salpingitis causing her issues?

I am oscillating between antibiotics, treating for coccidia again and just observing some more. She really looks like she is egg bound but there really isn't an egg.
