Rest in peace my lovely Dotty

My lovely Dotty has died after a mystery illness of only a couple of days.
She leaves an outsized hole in our lives including for her partner in crime and inseparable companion, Minnie.

I never knew whether Dotty loved me, or hated me. In the end I believe she just saw me as an inferior being who needed to be reminded of my place in life.

In spite of my complicated relationship with Dotty, I loved her dearly. I was so happy to find that she was very often in my presence. She liked to be near me, to explain things to me, and just hang out. She was quite tolerant of me stroking her neck and wattles.

Her tail and fluffy butt were a wonderful sight and she was always alert to whatever was going on around us.

In her short time - she was only 2 years and 3 months old - she lived life to the full and on her own terms.
She loved to sunbathe by my chair; she loved to fly; she molted when the temperature was single digits Fahrenheit; and she would always poop on her eggs. Always.

She was obsessed with pecking my ankles, and fortunately, before she died, Dotty passed on her knowledge of ankle pecking to none other than Lulu, so the tradition will live on.

Farewell Dotty, may wherever you are going be populated with many ankles to attack. I did my best for you and I am so sorry it was not enough.
I miss you already.

Here are some pictures to celebrate Dotty's short life - inevitably many of my photos are together with Minnie. Dotty is the one with the much bigger tail and the (ever so slightly) less weird comb.

So many very wonderful memories. She will be dearly missed. :hugs :hugs :hugs :hugs

Did you get him treated successfully?
Getting the stuff tonight, had to get my vet to order in the regular Revolution without the sarolaner as I couldn’t find any safety data on it with poultry. And I wasn’t willing to risk the poor wee fella.

So treat him tonight and by Wednesday I can start introducing him to the gals, that will be a good 10 days he has been quarantined, and I think he should be ok.

What do you think???

There's a brush fire a few miles from our home. Our home is the blue dot and the fire is at the red dot.View attachment 3215161
Has it been dry a well as hot? That would be very concerning. It looks like it is west of you.

It has been very dry. Yesterday the wind was high and it spread the fire quickly. It's more calm this morning. Fortunately the wind is from the southeast but for the firefighters sake hopefully it stays calm today. Several fire departments along with a team from the forest service are fighting it.

The passing of Vanille and Caramel made a lot of difference in the chicken dynamics. It now seems I have two tribes of four : my original four ex-batts who live in the chicken zone, and the four teenagers who wander around and have their headquarters around our outdoor dining table. In between is Chipie the bantam freeloader. She gets badly bullied by the ex-batts and she terrorizes her four ex-chicks ! Now that the alpha hen Vanille is gone, Théo is the unrivalled leader of the ex-batts... but he will leave them in a quarter of a second if his sweetheart Chipie calls him elsewhere.
I'm definitely not used yet to counting only four 💔.

I tried to take mugshots of the teenagers. I really think Monday is the most difficult FBA holiday with my cheap smartphone and them moving or hiding all the time!

Gaston the cockerel who earned the ugly nickname of Gaston le cochon by piggying anything looking like food on our table. I'm afraid he's going to be huge.

And Merle. Yesterday I discovered Merle has one white feather very well hidden near her tail. Now I'm wondering if she will grow into a black and white chicken.

Théo and Chipie as close as I can get. Stupid Théo hurt his foot and he's got sticky fleas but he's not letting himself be caught, I'll get him tonight when he's roosting.

Oh I wish you had asked - I found what data there is on sarolaner - mostly it is for a closely related drug like but it is basically OK at the amounts one would give if using Revolution Plus which is the one that has it in.
