Would you guys please share your ideas on a liner for under the the straw in the coop please. I've taken out the old one but have to get it re- lined for winter. Cardboard is good but I'd prefer something that isn't going to rot.

I found what I believe would be perfect but not sold in UK :( " Duncan poultry excelsior pads".

I will probably be absent for a few days. I can confirm my Ezzie is gone and how I missed her I do not know but when I found Ezzie I also found Crickets body. My father passed away a little after noon today. A word of warning to everyone, if you have not already please have your final wishes in writing so your next of kin is not left making impossible decisions and fighting with other family members in the process. Daddy for years told me verbally what he wanted, in situations like his. He never put it in writing and his brothers and sisters fought me and my brother tooth and nail last night. I now have to track down a copy of his burial insurance policy so I can begin funeral preparations, yet no one has a clue where it is.
I am so sorry for your losses Rebecca :hugs what an awful time you're going through. If it helps, my brother and I had to fight for dad's wishes too so please reach out to me if you need a sympathetic and understanding friend :hugs

Two for Tuesday

Good morning all, my alarm clock went off at 04:55, and then the back up alarm started up at 04:57 , that alarm went on for about 3 minutes. Next up was the young coyote who seems to be taking up residence behind my middle paddock, not happy with that! A good sharp yell stopped Wylie Coyote.

No, my toenails are not painted. The movie is on YouTube videos. And both these feathered friends have gone to sleep. Two part movie. So I will watch the other half tomorrow. I’m hoping Jaffar sleeps late in the morning! :fl
It’s 3am where you are, did he wake you up yet?!

Thank you for this very detailed explanation. It was very clear, but as you say only brings more questions.
If only it was just an intriguing problem and not one that takes such a toll on you and your chickens 😟. I hope the joy you get from them still counterrides the painful moments.
I will also say Bernadette is growing into the most beautiful lady, I love how her colours have changed.

On french forum I have read sayings that most backyard flocks will get Marek's in their environment. I don't know what truth there is to that.
Guess I should read up on some of these viruses.

Including the roos, I have 24 birds. As I've lost the senior roo twice, leaving me with just 1, at this point yes. Shad says a tribe should consist of senior roo with 3-4 hens and junior roo with several younger hens. Junior does most of the escort to nest while senior stays with others in guard mode. Poor Cheetah has been run ragged with the 10 ladies and the escort calls, plus he needed backup if something does come after them. The Idiots divide and conquer tactics are a good sign they will work together as adults. With all of them having a coop and no run, the roos have work cut out for them, but they also have space to escape.
Good to know!
