I saw what looks like a worm in Tina's poo of was it something she's eaten. Now thinking I should give them both wormer feed tomorrow 🤔
Did you take a picture of it? Sometimes it is hard to tell if it is a piece of straw or stick in the poo (because of where she pooed) or a worm. I've panicked before, only to push stuff around with a stick and find it was a bit of straw! Also, shape & size might help determine what kind of worm if it is a worm.

The Case of the Disappearing Chicken

So, one of my DC girls 'disappeared' on me, and a week later I saw her in the afternoon and 'threw' her into the coop/run complex...as there were fox sightings and I was afraid she would be a sitting target....until I saw her, I thought she had been gotten and was no more.

Well the very next morning she bolted the minute I went to give them the morning check/food/water.:th(she was quicker than I, I didn't shut the door in time)

I searched high and low, but could not find her :( I was sure she would not be long for this world with the foxes out and about...and did I mention we have raccoons?

A week and a half ago, on a Saturday, as we were getting ready to go to the transfer station, my husband asked if I needed the cardboard leaning against the house...as he would take it to be recycled if I didn't......
Low and behold, the ONE place I didn't check - but should have! My little DC girl was in the sand bucket under the roof overhang, BEHIND the cardboard. She had 4 eggs she was sitting on! I was afraid the eggs wouldn't hatch due to mom being off of them overnight, but I felt I had to let her sit for a while anyways, after all she was quite determined to be a mom, and shrieked bloody murder when I found her and checked to see what was under her.😱

I have put food and water out with easy access, and figured that she would get until this weekend...if nothing by then, back into the coop/run with the other she would go!

Well...this afternoon I went to check on her on my way into the house from work.......

In this last pic, there ARE 2, one you can see the head/beak of, the other you can see the back.
Awwww! And she is such a pretty Momma! ❤️ ❤️

Hens are louder than roosters....

I stopped recording at 5 min, but she kept it up for the better part of half an hour. Poor Hector kept suggesting alternative nest sites and was brutally ignored or ran from.
I had to stop listening because it started my lot up with the same noise!

You have to love those sneaky determined girls. As much grief as my girls give me I melt when I'm around the momma's and chicks. In saying that though, Wasabi cannot set this time around. Momma hens are due in a week and a half, maybe sooner. I want them to be my last clutch of the season. I've got some early molters, and the horses are already starting to get their winter coats. I fear a long cold early winter and the last thing I need is young chicks with a first time momma. If she wants chicks bad enough she is allowed to set starting around February of next year.

Lulu felt well enough today to hop up for a chat. Her comb is really quite silly!

Been getting special electric out to the poultry netting for the Fall. Wanted it to be moveable, as I'm not sure where or how far into the winter I'll keep the fencing going this year. Too much shade with low sun, combined with rainy days, I end up hauling the solar energizer in and out to charge. Two hours figuring out I had the wall wart plug wire reversed in polarity, now all is good. Pic showing a cut-out switch by the fencing, wanted one out there. The link to the fence is not clipped on yet.
Wednesday's Coffee Klatch day? On @Ribh s thread...

Popcorn dustbathing, all by herself. They don't let her in to the group bath. I feel sad about that! When Queenie was around she was in, but lately they keep her out. So she's taking hers early while the others were still foraging.

Everybody foraging in the back earlier this morning, just outside the aviary netting. This area I'm going to net at some point.

I completely agree about seeing in the dark. They don't see as well (kind of like us )- no moon and it is difficult to see - but the better you know your area, the more you can make out things you know. When there is some moonlight, it is easy to navigate known places. My chickens do move around some at night as well.
I also completely agree. I think I watched a video on this, saying that chickens can see a lot better than humans during the day, and at least as well as humans in the dark. I can't see s**t when it's dark.
