yep maybe my new chicks that come in a few days the surprise chick will be light colored/? I hope ;lol
Coming from McMurray, our surprise chick the first time was a white sapphire cockerel. The second time, not sure which bird it was as we got the hatchery's choice with it. 2 white sapphires in that: Blanche and PITA

(Cuckoo is the barred rock with weird markings). They have a number of other breeds that are white or almost white....not all of those are light colored chicks (Colombian wyandottte for example). They really like the sapphires the Whiting true green and true blue, and the Partridge Rocks (Pear)

that recently got certifcation/awards. We got Pear before that, but they'd been working on it. Personally, I don't really care about standards of perfection if it shortens the lifespan and turns them into laying machines. Pear is a (and her sisters were) very pretty, but she's also very smart and a grasshopper hound (that might be more our "fault" as the chicks arrived 1st week of August and we spent the first month catching grasshoppers for them).

Momma Hen should hatch out her chicks starting Friday. I will officially go on chick watch Wednesday in case of early hatchers, almost always happens with my flock. She has Butter eggs under her. Let us all cross our fingers for another white or yellow chick with feathered feet. I'm not even going to ask for a pullet, we all know my luck that is definitely too much to ask this early in the game and I've come to accept it. I will say this, Chiquita's cross chick has a straight comb, tiny straight comb that has not really grew at all in over 4 weeks. Dare I hope I have at least one pullet from her?
