I just had this same conversation with a vegetarian over dinner. We were eating sushi, and she was talking about her friend chicken farming over on Saltspring, and those poor meat birds destined for tables… so of course I asked “who?”. Oh yeah, I know him, I processed his birds at the abattoir there last year, he worked that day as well. Good birds in really nice condition for CX, looked like they had a really good life. It’s hard to explain the balance between eating meat as responsibly and ethically as you can, and the what does processing look like? “Well…” and I went through the step by step. Then we started discussing red meats. She was traumatized by a “rustic” goat processing as a child. Well, here it’s not done like that… and a less detailed discussion of that ensued. The issue is getting people to accept less “normal” meat birds and also not selectively breeding to the point of the chickens beings such “disposable” commodities. Shoving soapbox back into the closet. Oops View attachment 3239716

I really need to kick myself to get my butt in gear. I took pictures early Friday afternoon for FBF, did not get them downloaded until Saturday evening. Dad asked me to get video's of Dirt in the ring for him last night so he could see how he is moving with his new front shoes. I took them, but some other people were also down there and while I'm trying to video I had a nice older man trying to talk my head off. I did my best not to be rude and still concentrate on taking video's. Was going to use one of them for Pony Sunday......yup did not happen. I really had to try to not be rude when the guy kept hinting he had a mare and was curious what a black mare x Dirt's coloring would look like. Yeah, not going to happen, yes Dirt is a stud, does not mean he is going to be bred. And if that day ever happens, it will be to a Rocky mare anyway, not a grade standardbred.
Late Pony Sunday picture. I forget until he is sweaty just how big Dirt's blaze is.
