Back from our errands and visit to my parents, we found our four young ones perched on the higher roost of the coop. Judging from the poop piles under, they probably spent most of the day there (we came back at three)...to stay safe from our bigger girls 😟. At least they didn't get hurt, but I'm not sure they were able to eat or drink anything while we were gone, even though we left multiple feed and water bowls in the coop and the run!
So, I'm really hoping those of you who said it will get better when the girls start laying are right.
Some mug shots for Monday. No one wanted to stay in place after having been locked up so long!

It's out. I now need to find another wormer and coop cleaner I wish we had the same here as you

I keep getting bitten when I go out the back I'm at my wits end keeping up with it all
I've just seen This anyone have any thoughts?

Goodness knows how I'd cope with more right now
I thought a while back you had got some elector psp - I haven’t used it but I believe it is effective.
The thing you linked in might have some repellent properties (it is a mix of essential oils), but I doubt it would treat an infestation.

Yes, Hazel had a split in her beak and part of one half broke off. @Shadrach was very helpful with tips on gluing the split and then very slowly filing (over weeks) to smooth the end out. The worry was the split, that it might not stop splitting, not the end so much. He also linked to an article on the very sensitive nerve endings in beaks, this is good information and will help you with Mr. Pompei. He may take care of it with wiping his beak on stone as @RoyalChick notes. If he can successfully eat I would do nothing unless it is growing in badly.
@Ponypoor Here's what Hazel's beak looked like. The crack was only about as long as the broken off bit. Filing very slowly, a bit at a time, allowing the beak time to grow, is key, so you don't file or get into any of the sensitive nodes that are along the inside edge. They feel everything very acutely with their beaks! One or two slow and gentle files and she relaxed, didn't pull her head away and let me do just a few more for each session.

She is so adorable! She looks like an older kitten - somewhere under 6 mos.? i could well be wrong, she just has that kitten air about her (him?), but too big to not be at least 3 -4 mos old ime. I do hope you are able to help her/him. Again, absolutely adorable. Very kind of you to take her/him in to help. That's one of the things I love about this thread, such caring, compassionate people that actively reach out to help 'others' (people & animals)!🥰

P.S. Sunbathing beetle green irridescent lady is lovely, too!
I would guess 3-4 months, its actually pretty small and its face is very kittenish

omg I was reading this http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/PermGen.html ill never use that!
I advise against a hard position on any insecticide. Insecticides are tools that must be used safely and correctly. Yes, they can have consequences when used unadvertised and incorrectly. That is why we must educate ourselves and use them correctly. It is our responsibility to do so.

When fighting an infestation no repellent is going to work. The insects are not going to grind themselves to death on diatomaceous earth. You have to be able to KILL the insects. To do that you need a product like permethrin. Be smart. Use it wisely and correctly and there will be limited consequences if any.
