@Ponypoor - why did you suggest testing for West Nile virus - according to the Merck Veterinary Manual it desn't kill chickens.

Just covering bases, it’s bad here this year.

I have poultry tonic verm-x porridge or mash which she refused wet and dry

I will offer apples and banana

I'm just putting out corn on the cob to see if this will tempt her. I'm afraid I only have food in my home now I've run out of options

Scrambled eggs are worth a try.

Or even a raw egg, even my Sophia who was poorly last year ate scrambled egg and raw egg.

A selfish rant coming up: here’s my thoughts. For what it’s worth, I do my best to help people out who are in trouble. Sometimes it’s a very thankless job. Sometimes it’s very rewarding. But losing your only pet, and then realize that you are all alone, is heartbreaking . Last night burying my neighbors dog, hurt me too. I’m just wondering, if In the future, I may need some help, to have someone to care for me. Or am I to die lonely and afraid in the dark?
Rant over, tax payments come later.

Can’t speak to who your support network is, but sure hope you have one.

My suggestion is to make a plan and write it down, give it to someone you trust to support you at your time of need.

The world of Fungi is massive, in fact more fungi species than any other living organism on the planet so it is said.

Have never seen in my chickens (hope never to see!), but it’s common in horses feet where it is indeed called Thrush.

Both RC and By Bob have extensive knowledge on this topic, if they say it is so, you can bet it is!

Yes, but not necessarily for Tina as she is a battery hen, her partner died a couple of months ago. I'm sad to say it will have been because they were both overly used. Cancer comes to my mind for these little ones

I comfort myself knowing they had a little life with me here and had some really happy times.

You are wise in knowing this.

These poor hens are just factory throw aways.

But you have them a lovely second chance. Nothing and no one lives forever, all we can hope for is to give our pets the best care possible.

Alex, you're not alone. Your friends are here. Prayers for you. I've buried a few chickens this summer and each one touched me. I use to be hard hearted but I get softer as time goes by. A death, whether it be an animal or human isn't something to take lightly.

Some people are just not chicken people, she’s not a big fan of raising chickens
