Hmmm. I will have to think about that. I don’t immediately see how to make that work.
Make the cone shape with bottom of cone size of trunk base (flaring out as you mentioned) Rivit cone together in place. Punch holes along top rim and run twine/rope through and tie to limbs to support upside down cone! ?yes? No?

Well, guess Bernie was taught a little lesson. Lets see if she absorbed it or if she has to go to summer school for extra instruction!❓⁉️
Speaking of learning her lesson, I don't think Glynda is satisfied with her position.

Tonight she almost got into it with Betty.

Betty decided it was time to peck the Rascals and remind them of their place. She pecked Lady Featherington twice and LF just walked away.

Betty then went to peck Glynda from behind. Glynda whirled and flared her neck feathers. They stood looking at each other. Glynda went forward. Betty was shocked and briefly moved back. It looked like battle was about to occur and then.....

.......Aurora walked between them and broke it up.

I feel like this is not over. Betty is only 3 lbs. I would guess Glynda is 2 lbs at most. I'm not certain that's enough difference to lean the fight in any one direction.

That's what I'm thinking. Like this.

My Dad and I installed one of those back in 1984. It is amazing. We made like a big coal bin in the basement and just chicks it in through the door. Saved so much time and mess. Glad to see you have one!

I think we may owe Woodstove taxes

Don't worry. I've been out collecting

I think that would be good - but I will have to make it because the ones you see for sale are only big enough to go around a pole that supports a bird feeder.
I haven’t seen one for trees.
I have to figure how to fix it to the trunk without damaging the tree. I could probably make it out of a roll of aluminum flashing - I have some in the barn I think.
Maybe stick some of the poles in the ground around the tree and wire the flashing to it. Kinda like if you were planting a new saplings g and using the poles to keep it upright until the roots are well established....

What to Feed the Joint Tribe?

I have reached a decision point as it relates to feed. Now that everyone is mixed I need to choose a joint feed. I have switched the big girls to feather fixer when Hattie started molting.

They clearly prefer chick feed. Once they were able to avail themselves of either Feather Fixer or Starter Grower they demolished the chick feed (Starter Grower).

The Rascals are now 15 weeks old.

I'm leaning towards one more big bag of Starter Grower to get them to 18 weeks. It has the protein that the bigs need to make feathers and the nutrition the Rascals need to grow. And they all love it.

What does everyone think? Does this make sense? Am I missing something?
I'd mix the starter and the feather fixer to start out. I'm fixing to mix in a bag of feather fixer with mix of flock raiser, laying pellets and cracked corn. Starting to see some melting so I'll address it now.
