OMG I just realized Ive never had 2 roosters at one time whats gonna happen lol I know one is submissive or the may both fight but right now one is being submissive.

I have 2 for sure roos in my bunch. After reading Shads posts I know Id like to try and keep 2 boys so I am in the same boat. Its been fascinating watching them sort it out so far. No blood shed at all just squabbling. Occasionally they will face off, flap some wings about, and chest bump. Then the bigger of the two walks away which surprises me. The BCM is so laid back in comparison to the other roo and he is the smaller of the two by a bit yet so far it seems clear he is the little man in charge. Its like a soap opera in the brooder! So much drama!! As the brooder turns.

Lulu update
Lulu is looking great this morning running around, eating, drinking and chattering.
The vet just called with results of her blood test and he said that I definitely didn't imagine that she was poorly. Nothing dramatic, but she is slightly anemic and her liver function tests are slightly off. Nothing to be alarmed about but not quite right.
Her white count is normal so he does not think it is an infection.
He did not see any lice or mites - though he says they are very common in NJ and especially now and into the Fall so I should be vigilant and treat them periodically. But as he saw no evidence he is not thinking that is the cause.
His best guess was something she ate. Which brings me back to that weird bag of pink food.
He says that if she is off again I should bring her straight in for a re-check.
Now about that bag of food. Seriously, is there anything I can do to get it tested? Or should I just chuck it and forget it? Obviously they are not eating it but it is in a bin in the garage. Maybe I can use it to poison the mice and the raccoons (just kidding!).

One of these days someone on here besides myself is going to wake up to surprise chicks. It is one thing to purposefully set a hen. It is entirely something else to have your "missing and presumed dead" hen show up with chicks in tow. It really makes you feel about a inch tall when you find out she was hiding in plain sight if only I had looked UNDER the hay pile.

Yup, that is me!!! (only I found her half way through incubation. ) If only I had looked behind the recycle cardboard!!! She hatched my 4 new babies that will be a week old Tomorrow.

Since last year’s 11 October chicks, I’ve been careful to watch for sneaky mamas… so far I’ve busted three attempted nests of 12-18 eggs, one by complete accident

Scrubed out the chickens run it's so much fresher . It took a very long time but all worthwhile.

Tye treadle was a huge let down it opened but doesn't shut so it has to be posted back.

The oyster shells are not what was ordered they are way to big for the girls and for the third time I received damaged goods from this company

They are not interested in being told of their damaged goods so it's pointless letting them know.

You could crush up the oyster shells with a hammer, or rock, or mortar and pestle? Or an old coffee grinder? I used a dedicated old coffee grinder from a thrift store in the city to powder eggshells before adding into my compost pile.

Raised together they shouldn’t have as many issues, even less if you can raise them within a mature flock with a rooster. Sammy teaches most of the Boys here manners. I had company the other day and pretty boy tried to get things on with his mom, who was having none of it… she ran for Sammy and all it took was a ha low flare and “don’t even think it” stance, and he went off to find a more appropriate pulley for his attentions. of course you might get jerks, there could be problems, you never know until they grow up really. Mostly though I have found the stories of multiple roosters causing problems exaggerated. As long as there are enough hens, and they have decent temperaments… of course the will still go through the idiot cockerel stage, that’s a given!
